What could the pain under the left breast be due to? Can breast pain be the result of an infection? Is it worth performing a control X-ray examination? Which specialist should you go to? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
Why does pain appear under the left breast?
Hello. I am 35 years old and have been feeling for some time pain under the left breast. A few weeks ago I was going through quite serious and long treatment upper respiratory tract infection. During the treatment, I was ordered to perform a chest X-ray, which did not work out, of course I also had a check-up, i.e. blood count, the results were also correct despite the infection. I took the antibiotic for 12 days because I had a severe cough that would not go away after the first course of the drug.
For some time now, I have had pain under my left breast, which intensifies when I want to take a deep breath or when I cough or sneeze. It is like a momentary pressure that makes it difficult to breathe for a while, then the pain wears off. What does the pain under the left breast show? Could it be the result of an infection? I wonder if I should have a control X-ray examination, but I would prefer not to do it in such a short time. I am asking for tips on what can cause pain under the left breast and what should I do?

The doctor advises what to do in case of pain under the left breast
Ladies and Gentlemen, the aforementioned chest pain may be the result of an infection, especially if there was a troublesome, paroxysmal cough. It is a pity that you did not describe the pain that occurs in more detail, as it is important in differentiating the causes. As mentioned, in case of long-lasting cough, the patient may experience chest pain. It is related, among other things, to the constant tension of the chest muscles, which may be damaged.
A diagnostic test package for women can help diagnose the causes of pain under the left breast. These tests can be performed in Diagnostyka diagnostic centers.
Of course, infections aren’t the only ones cause chest pain, even more so on the left side. Heart disease, including myocarditis and pericarditis, should be considered. Most often, the pain under the left breast is associated with a heart attack, which of course is possible, but not as frequent as it may seem. In the case of myocardial infarction, the pain occurs primarily retrosternally and is compressive in nature, it can radiate to the mandible and the left upper limb.
In addition to cardiological causes, which, as I mentioned, are not common, the pain in the left breast area may be related to lesions of the thoracic spine, including degenerative changes or discopathies causing pressure on the nerves innervating the chest. I suggest that you go to your family doctor who will be able to arrange the appropriate tests. It is definitely worth taking an ECG and blood count along with the measurement of the CRP protein, which informs about inflammation in the body. If necessary, you will be referred by a primary care physician to a specific specialist. Make an appointment with a family doctor as part of the National Health Fund via the halodoctor.pl portal.
