What does the MCV indicator mean? How should its value be interpreted? What MCV values indicate a disease state? What does the MCV show above normal? The question is answered by the drug. Anna Mitschke.
What does the elevated MCV indicate?
Hello. I have a question about my blood test results. Well, I recently did a morphology, which I try to do regularly, once a year. Until now, my results have usually been fairly straightforward. A year ago I already had some increased MCVHowever, at that time the result was so slightly abnormal that I did not care. However, this year my result is already significantly overstated.
What it shows MCV above normal? Do such values indicate an illness and should I see a doctor with it? I read that an elevated MCV result may be related to vitamin B12 and folic acid deficiency, so will vitamin and folic acid supplementation help, or is there any treatment required?
I know it may be difficult to judge without further research, but I would love to ask for some guidance on my case. I am worried about this elevated MCV, because so far I have not been seriously ill and I am afraid that my health will not start to deteriorate now. I will be grateful for any advice. Regards.
The doctor explains, as evidenced by the elevated MCV
Blood morphology is performed in order to determine the number of its morphotic elements and to evaluate some of their features. One of the parameters assessed in morphology is MCV – mean erythrocyte volume. This parameter is very important in the diagnosis of anemia. Correct MCV values (mean erythrocyte volume) are in the range 82–92 fl.
Normal size blood cells are called normocytes. Small blood cells are microcytes and large blood cells are macrocytes. The size of the blood cell is very important in the diagnosis of anemia as it helps to determine the cause of the anemia.
In the case of anemia, it is also worth performing a diagnostic blood test panel, thanks to which you can check whether the body has developed anemia.
Volumized blood cells seen mainly in anemia caused by vitamin B12 and folate deficiency. The cause of the deficiency may be malabsorption disorders, congenital metabolic disorders, insufficient supply in the diet, or alcoholism. However, this is not the only cause of large blood cells. Macrocytes are also present in some immunohemolytic anemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, aplastic anemia or in chronic liver diseases.
Low-volume blood cells are observed in microcytic anemia caused primarily by iron deficiency. Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin, the pigment found in blood cells. Its deficiency causes impaired formation of red blood cells. The cause of iron deficiency may be its insufficient supply in the diet, impaired absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, blood loss, or increased demand with insufficient supply.
- To raise the level of iron in the blood, you can use Beetroot + with iron and vitamin C for the circulatory system.
When analyzing the blood count, you need to look at all the parameters presented in it. Diagnosis cannot be made from one incorrect value. Therefore, please show the results of the morphology test to the attending physician first, before starting supplementation. Perhaps the test should be repeated as laboratory errors often occur. After collecting a full interview, examining and reviewing the test results, the doctor will decide on the need to introduce further diagnostics.
- XeniVIT Vitamin B12 Active Xenico is a preparation that lasts up to 3 months of supplementation.
