Registration for SARS-CoV-2 vaccination has started. Depending on which stage we qualify for, we will wait shorter or longer for vaccination. However, it is worth knowing today what the vaccination procedure looks like and how to prepare for it. Thanks to this, when our turn comes, we will know what awaits us.

- Before the vaccination itself, we must undergo a medical qualification, during which the doctor will interview us and assess our general health.
- The vaccination itself takes about half a minute, and after it we have to stay under surveillance for at least 15 minutes

Vaccination against COVID-19 – step by step
The first step towards vaccination against COVID-19 will be registration and obtaining an e-referral, and then setting the date of vaccination in one of several hundred points throughout Poland. We can register for vaccination in three ways: via the hotline, at the GPP or via the Patient Online Account. All the necessary information can be found in the article: How to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccination? [EXPLAIN].
It is worth remembering that the national vaccination program has been divided into stages, which in practice means that a healthy 20-year-old will be vaccinated much later than, for example, a 65-year-old with chronic diseases. It is worth checking to which stage we will be qualified: The order of vaccinations against COVID-19. Check which group you belong to [EXPLAINED]
Once we have completed all the formalities, all we have to do is wait for the vaccination date. How to prepare before we enter the office? What can we expect inside? What may a doctor ask us?
Qualification for vaccination against SARS-CoV-2
Qualification for vaccination is a mandatory point before starting the administration of a dose of the preparation, regardless of whether vaccination is mandatory or voluntary, as in the case of SARS-CoV-2. The medical examination is valid for 24 hours, which means that if you are late to have the vaccine at this time, it will have to be repeated.
Qualification for vaccination is to detect possible contraindications to vaccination and to ascertain the indications. It usually includes an assessment of the patient’s general condition – examination of basic vital signs (temperature, heart rate, breathing, consciousness) and examination of the throat, lymph nodes, and auscultation of the lungs and heart. Each qualification for vaccination is similar, it may differ only in the details of contraindications for specific vaccines.
After qualifying for vaccination, the doctor decides whether the vaccination can take place, whether it should be postponed or, if there are absolute contraindications, completely abandon it.
After qualifying for vaccination, the procedure itself begins. According to the Summary of Product Characteristics, the COVID-19 Comirnaty (Pfizer / BioNTech) vaccine is administered intramuscularly, with the deltoid muscle being the preferred site of administration. Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski said in an interview with Medonet that the administration of the vaccine itself usually takes about half a minute, depending on how much the patient is afraid of vaccination and whether he requires additional support.
What is preparation for vaccination? According to the Ministry of Health, the general rules on vaccination apply to vaccination against COVID-19. This means that there are no specific guidelines for preparing for vaccination. They can be taken regardless of the time of day and meals. The Ministry of Health only recommends that vaccinations should be vaccinated.

After the injection, the patient should remain under close surveillance for at least 15 minutes for emergency adverse reactions. If all is well, the vaccinated person can go home. It is important to ask (if the doctor does not explain this clearly enough) what side effects may occur.

Vaccination against COVID-19 must be repeated 21 days after the first dose. When signing up for vaccination, we will get two dates right away, and the day before the planned vaccination – additionally a reminder via SMS.
Importantly, the second dose of the vaccine should not be administered to people who experienced an anaphylactic reaction after the first dose.
