What does coccyx pain in pregnancy indicate? Is the position of the child influencing the pain? Does this mean that the baby is large or mobile? Could tailbone pain not be related to pregnancy? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.

What does coccyx pain in pregnancy indicate?

Hello, I’m 31 years old and I’m in my second pregnancy. Currently it is 8 months, so it is almost the end, but still a month has to be solved. What worries me is the pain in the tailbone, which during the previous pregnancy – and it was 4 years ago – did not bother me at all. Now this is something new to me and it is not pleasant at all. I feel pain in the tailbone at every step. When I sit down and lie down too, although in the supine position, it is not so annoying. I don’t know, is it because the baby is lying down, or is it because the baby is already quite big and is often fidgeting and kicking?

What it shows coccyx pain in pregnancy? Or maybe it is not related to pregnancy at all? In this pregnancy, I am very nervous, tearful and generally broken, but I have to be strong because I have someone for. My XNUMX-year-old is also in need of care, and overall I am still at a high level as my husband spends all his days at work. Yes, I should rest, but I just don’t have time.

And now that tailbone pain I took for pregnancy symptom and I was hoping that it would pass quickly, and now I don’t know what it could be. I am asking for help, as evidenced by the pain in the coccyx in pregnancy? Regards.

The doctor explains the causes of pain in the coccyx in pregnancy

Pain in the tailbone area it is one of the most common pain symptoms reported by pregnant women. The cause appears to be a pregnancy hormone called relaxin. It causes the relaxation of synchondroses in the pelvic area, all in order to enable natural childbirth. The top of the sacrum connects with the help of cartilaginous growth with the coccyx (which we colloquially call the coccyx). Outside of pregnancy, it is a tight connection that allows us to keep the pelvic organs in place.

Shortly before delivery, this combination, thanks to its relaxation and its spreading effect on the pelvic cartilages, leads to a deviation of the coccyx, thanks to which it will be possible for the baby to pass through the birth canal. In addition to relaxin, the soreness of the coccyx can also be influenced by the child’s head pressing against it, constipation or pain in the upper parts of the spine that radiate downwards. Relief can be provided by home remedies such as a warm bath, heating or a gentle massage of the painful area.

It is also worth using physiotherapeutic help to reduce pain, a physiotherapist can also advise what exercises to do at home to reduce the feeling of pain. If, nevertheless, the pain is still unbearable or other, disturbing symptoms appear, contact the gynecologist in charge of the pregnancy, because without consulting a doctor, it is not recommended to use medications, regardless of the form – be it oral, cream, ointment, oil or gel. At home, do not overload yourself, leave the housework to other members of the household.
