Why does the perineum hurt when pregnant? What does perineal pain show? Can pain in the perineum indicate an upcoming delivery? Is this a normal symptom at week 38? Should you be concerned? The question is answered by the drug. Anna Mitschke.
What does perineal pain in pregnancy show?
Hello. I am 33 years old and currently 38 weeks pregnant. For several days I have had a problem with walking, and more precisely while walking, I feel pain in the perineum regardless of the pace or distance. Which means perineal pain in pregnancy? Of course, I have other symptoms typical of pregnancy, but I have not heard of perineal pain during pregnancy from any of my friends. My ailments appear at different times of the day, they are also of varying intensity. The pain in the perineum, which I feel, wears off fairly quickly.
I am under the constant supervision of a gynecologist, my test results are normal, a natural birth is planned. I have another appointment in two weeks, and the pain in the perineum not only worries me, but also hinders my daily functioning. I don’t have any vaginal discharge or vaginal discharge, but I am starting to feel irregular contractions, on the last ultrasound it turned out that the daughter is upside down, can the pain in the perineum at this stage mean that the delivery is approaching? I noticed that the belly gently lowered, it is large, and I am delicate in stature.
I am asking for a reliable advice, what may mean perineal pain in pregnancy, is it a normal symptom or maybe I should go to the hospital?
The doctor explains what pain in the perineum during pregnancy may mean
During pregnancy, there are many changes in the woman’s body that ensure the adaptation of the baby and mother, and prepare the woman for childbirth. Perineal pain is a common symptom that occurs in pregnant women. Most often, symptoms are reported at the end of pregnancy. Usually, women report perineal pain with increased physical exertion or prolonged sitting or standing. Then the symptoms disappear after rest or change of position.
The pain in the perineum observed before delivery is related to the pressure on the baby’s head, which heralds the imminent commencement of labor. In the body of a pregnant woman, hormones such as relaxin and sex steroid hormones are produced, which increase the elasticity of connective and collagen tissues, which results in increased mobility in the pelvic joints. This can cause perineal pain in some women.
Another cause of discomfort may be the pressure on the pubic symphysis of the enlarged uterus. Some women experience perineal pain at the beginning of pregnancy, which is usually also related to the body’s preparation to change its figure and give birth. Sometimes the cause of perineal pain there may be a dissolution of the pubic symphysis. The pubic symphysis is the connection between the pubic bones. In pregnant women, excessive relaxation of the pelvic ligaments as a result of hormonal changes may occur. The dislocation of the pubic symphysis is accompanied by local, excruciating pain in the lower abdomen, which may radiate to the thighs. Pain worsens when lifting objects, bending down, walking.
Pubic symphysis breakdown may make it impossible to give birth through the ways and forces of nature. Mostly treatment of symphysis separation is treated conservatively. Usually, exercises with a physiotherapist are used. Occasionally, surgery may be necessary after the birth of your baby. I suggest that you consult your pregnancy gynecologist who will decide on further treatment or go straight to the hospital for an examination. Childbirth is probably approaching.
