What is the MXD index in morphology? What may the decreased level of MXD in morphology be related to? Is this a cause for concern? What additional tests should be performed in the case of elevated MXD? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.
What does elevated MXD indicate in morphology?
Hello, in the last few weeks I felt a little bad, I wasn’t sick, but I was weak, had problems with concentration and generally felt weaker for no reason. My family doctor first asked me to do urine and blood count tests. I’ve already picked up the results, but it makes me wonder what it means MXD w morfologii? My MXD morphology index is slightly elevated and I started to wonder what that might mean. These more well-known indicators are better described, but I cannot get to know what MXD is in morphology and what exactly this parameter is responsible for.
If this index in morphology is elevated, should I be worried? Overrun normy MXD w morfologii it’s not high – the morphology MXD is at level 17, but still elevated MXD it bothers me because I have no idea what it is responsible for. If other morphology parameters are okay, and only MXD is not, is there cause for concern? Should my doctor order me additional tests because MXD is elevated? Please answer my question.
The doctor explains, as indicated by elevated MXD morphology
MXD, or mixed cell percentage in English, shows the size of the mixed populations of monocytes, basophils and eosinophils. The increase in this parameter may indicate an increase in each of these subpopulations. The population of white blood cells, i.e. leukocytes (WBC), consists mainly of neutrophils and lymphocytes.
Growth of neutrophils (NEUT) usually indicates an acute bacterial infection, but it can also occur in rheumatological diseases (RA, Still’s disease, gout), but also in the case of injuries and stress, and their significant increase may indicate the growth process in the bone marrow.
Lymphocyte growth (LYM) may indicate chronic bacterial inflammation, viral infections (hepatitis, infectious mononucleosis, mumps, measles, etc.), and their significant increase may indicate a proliferative disease within the lymph nodes.
Returning, however, to MXD – its increase may indicate an increase in one or more of the following populations: eosinophils, basophils or monocytes. A slight increase in this value should not be alarming, slight differences between individuals are perfectly normal. However, if there is a SIGNIFICANT increase, it may indicate one of the disease entities listed below. The increase in the eosinophil population may indicate a parasitic invasion, an allergic reaction, a reaction to drugs, it may also occur in various types of hematopoietic system diseases and in diseases with vasculitis.
Increase in the monocyte population may indicate bacterial (tuberculosis, syphilis, endocarditis), viral (cytomegaly, chickenpox, shingles, herpes simplex), protozoal (malaria) or fungal infections; inflammatory bowel disease, connective tissue system diseases, sarcoidosis, haematopoietic malignancies or occur after steroid therapy.
An increase in the basophil population may indicate a proliferative disease of the haematopoietic system. Please show the physician who ordered the test the blood count result, if the MXD value is significantly elevated then the doctor will probably order a blood count with a smear. This allows the tests to accurately assess the percentage and quantity of each leukocyte subpopulation.
