What does low neutrocyte count mean? How does lowered neutrocyte levels affect health? What could be causing low levels of neutrocytes in the blood? When asked, the appropriate drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
What does the low level of neutrocytes show?
Hello. Today I received the results of the blood tests that my attending physician ordered. By the standards, I have low levels of neutrocytes. I know the result should be analyzed holistically, but what does that mean? I wonder if lower neutrocytes may be related to the fact that I am undergoing the first course of chemotherapy? I’m on a check-up so I’m starting to get nervous.
I feel worse, I have a fever that does not drop after an antipyretic drug and appears suddenly, my muscles started to ache even with little effort or is it related to the fact that my neutrocytes dropped since the last blood tests or could it be the result of chemotherapy? I’m starting to worry because I don’t know exactly what role they’re playing neutrocytes in the body, much less what it means low levels of neutrocytes in the blood.
Previous blood tests were normal, I do not know what could have caused the neutrocytes to decrease, as I mentioned earlier, I am under therapy, will the parameters continue to drop with the next series? I am asking for an answer, the visit is still less than two weeks.
Morphology, cholesterol, and sugar are basic lab tests that everyone should do at least once a year. They make it possible to detect many dangerous diseases at an early stage. Buy a package on Medonet Market and take care of your health today.
The doctor explains what low neutrocyte counts mean
Dear Sir, it is a pity that you did not provide more detailed information about the results. It is extremely important to provide an accurate test result. Causes decreased levels of neutrophils there can be many in the blood, one of which is chemotherapy.
This form of treatment works by inhibiting the intensive division of cancer cells. Unfortunately, it is not indifferent to the human body and inhibits the division of rapidly dividing cells, including blood cells and bone marrow. During chemotherapy, the amount of leukocytes in the blood, including neutrophils, is often reduced. This results in an increased incidence of infections, mainly bacterial and fungal. A fever during chemotherapy may be the body’s reaction to an infection or inflammation in our body that our body cannot fully cope with.
You mentioned muscle aches. Muscles can ache from infections as well as be complication of the chemotherapy used. In the event of a rising fever and low levels of neutrophilia, you should see a doctor as soon as possible, as this can even be life-threatening. Subsequent series of treatment may aggravate this condition, so an urgent medical consultation is all the more required.
Remember that chemotherapy is not the only cause of a reduced amount of neutrophilia in your blood. Very often, as a result of viral infection, the concentration of lymphocytes increases and neutrophilia decreases. It is a temporary state related to the current infection that is not of great importance for our health, although in some situations it may facilitate bacterial superinfections.
Fortunately, another cause, which is quite rare, is cancer of the bone marrow, i.e. leukemia and, indirectly, lymphomas. In their course, normal cells in the bone marrow are displaced by cancer cells that do not fulfill their proper function. I encourage you to contact your attending physician as soon as possible, perhaps the cause of the fever is not serious, but in your current condition it cannot be underestimated.
