What does CRP mean? How should the result be interpreted? What might a low CRP indicate? Could low CRP be related to liver disease? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
What might a low CRP result indicate?
Good day. I would like to know what it means low crp? Due to the fact that recently I was not feeling very well (weakness, malaise, mild abdominal pain), I went to the family doctor. He directed me to a blood count in the first place. Today I picked up the results and noticed that I have too low crp. What could this mean? I do not have an appointment with my family doctor until tomorrow, so please let me know what a too low CRP may be.
Of course, I did research on various websites and read that a low CRP could be related to liver problems. Is it true? Apart from a mild stomach ache, I don’t feel any digestive symptoms. It also seems to me that I don’t have any inflammation in my body and I haven’t had any infections recently. Or maybe some disease is developing that I don’t know about and low CRP is one of its symptoms.
On one website I read that too low CRP means cancer (it scared me). I will be grateful for any information. Regards.
The doctor explains what the low CRP indicates
Hello, it is a pity that you did not write what it is CRP value at the lady. The term low CRP doesn’t say much. CRP, or acute phase protein, is a protein whose concentration increases significantly during inflammation. Most of all, it is noticeable during an infection. The low CRP value, i.e. within the normal range, indicates that inflammation in the body, and thus the disease indirectly, can be ruled out with high probability. Low CRP concentration is normal, so don’t be alarmed.
You mentioned liver problems. In the case of its failure, the production of proteins decreases. CRP is one of the proteins produced by the liver, but abnormally low values can only be called for in situations where the protein concentration is expected to rise, such as in the case of bacterial infections CRP concentration may reach high values, it would be alarming if the concentration would be low in such a situation. Of course, in the case of liver failure, other symptoms would also be noticeable, as well as the deficiency of other proteins, including albumin or clotting factors.
Infectious diseases are not the only causes elevated CRP protein levels, also in the case of thromboembolism, muscle inflammation, autoimmune or cancer, the concentration of CRP may increase.
If both the morphology and CRP protein levels are normal, don’t worry. Your symptoms may have a completely different etiology, for example functional, endocrine or psychological. The obtained results should be presented to the attending physician who should deepen the diagnostics. In the case of chronic weakness or malaise, it is worth checking the concentration of thyroid hormones and fasting glucose.
There are times, especially in the case of bacterial infections, when inflammation is increasing and the CRP protein is still low. In such cases, it is worth testing procalcitonin, which is a more sensitive indicator of an ongoing infection.

You can test the CRP level in your body yourself. On Medonet Market, buy a home test for determining the concentration of CRP in the blood.
