Due to the weak immunity, the kitten’s lichen begins at the first contact with the carrier of the infection. Examine your pet regularly, paying attention to the condition of the skin and coat. Bald patches and skin irritation are symptoms of ringworm.
The incubation period of the disease lasts from a week to 3 months. It depends on the individual animal’s resistance to infection.
The main signs of infection:
- hair falls out, forming round bald patches;
- the skin becomes inflamed and scaly;
- acne and dandruff appear.
Sometimes the disease is accompanied by itching. Examine your pet when it starts to itch frequently.
If the first symptoms are ignored, the infection will spread further. New foci of infection will appear on the kitten’s body, and the claws will be deformed and will not grow properly, damaging the paws.
To start treatment, you need to make sure that the diagnosis is correct. Contact a veterinary clinic for tests:
- blood and urine;
- sowing a spore;
- examination of lesions under a microscope or under a special lamp.
If you know exactly what lichen in kittens looks like, if an illness is found, proceed with treatment.
To cure a kitten from lichen, follow the recommendations of the doctors:
- Treat the affected area with miconazole, thiabendozole, or another medication prescribed by a specialist.
- Protect the infected kitten from communicating with other pets and people.
- Get rid of the objects that the patient has most often come into contact with: bedding, toys, and other items that can be easily replaced.
- Disinfect the infected pet’s habitat with bleach.
To speed up recovery, treat foci of infection with tar, sulfuric or zinc ointments: apply in a thick layer 2-3 times a day with a cotton swab. If none of the listed remedies are available, you can use celandine. Pluck fresh stems of the plant and lubricate the wounds of the kitten 4-5 times a day.
It is easier to avoid depriving than to treat it later. Protect your kitten from contact with street animals and check his condition regularly at the veterinary clinic. After returning from the street, wash your hands with soap and water, as you may be the carrier of the infection.
The sooner you start treating your pet, the faster it will recover – do not delay your visit to the veterinarian.
