According to the order of Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, every citizen returning to the country is obliged to undergo a fourteen-day quarantine. How should it look like? What is allowed and what is strictly forbidden to do? The Ministry of Health provides guidelines.
Home quarantine may be ordered in the case of:
- people with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection who have mild COVID-19 disease;
- people who had contact with the confirmed case;
- people who return to the country from abroad.
Home quarantine in the event of suspected infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, lasts fourteen days and takes place at the address that we provide when qualifying for quarantine. If the patient is not able to undergo quarantine at the place of residence, it may be held in the center indicated by the services.
According to the guidelines of the Ministry of Health, people in home quarantine should be monitored at least twice a day temperature body. In the event of fever, dyspnea or cough, they should notify the sanitary and epidemiological station by phone or report to the infectious diseases ward, avoiding public transport.
How to behave during home quarantine to reduce the risk of contracting the coronavirus in your household? If you live with your family, minimize contact with them and keep a distance of at least two meters. WHO recommends that a person in home quarantine be placed in a separate bedroom and use a separate bathroom. Usually, however, we have one bathroom in our apartments. If a person in quarantine is not able to use a separate bathroom, they should disinfect it with available cleaning agents after each use of the toilet / bathroom.
In order to limit the spread of the coronavirus, separate vessels should be used from the rest of the population during quarantine. The recommendations also mention airing the apartment several times a day, maintaining hygiene rules, frequent hand washing and disinfecting surfaces such as countertops, door handles and phone screens.

In the event that home quarantine was ordered as a result of contact with a confirmed case, during its duration (after a minimum of five days), a smear will be taken from the person in quarantine for testing for SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection. A paramedic will pick him up. After the results are obtained, the patient will be informed whether he has been infected or not.
What must not be done during home quarantine?
During home quarantine, you must not leave the house under any circumstances. It is forbidden to go out with the dog, walks, go shopping or go to the clinic. Relatives or neighbors can help with shopping or caring for a pet. However, it should be remembered that such assistance should take place without contact – purchases can be left in front of the door.
If contact with other people in the apartment cannot be avoided during home quarantine, they must also be placed under home quarantine.
Complying with the rules is very important as it significantly reduces the risk of spreading the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Police officers assist in verifying whether the quarantined person actually complies with it. Failure to comply with the quarantine rules may result in a fine of up to five thousand zlotys.
The Prime Minister’s office also reminds that during quarantine no one is alone. It is good to know where to go for help in this difficult time.
