What does bile in the stomach indicate? Where does bile come from in the stomach? Is the presence of bile in the stomach a result of an unhealthy diet? Could A Diet High In Fat Cause Bile In The Stomach? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.
What does the presence of bile in the stomach indicate?
Hello. My dad recently went to the hospital. Had stomach problems, at some point he began to hurt enough that we had to call an ambulance. Doctors managed to save dad (dad is 68) and told him that the problem was bile accumulated in the stomach. Of course, he did not ask exactly what was going on and for me the doctors still do not have time. And I will, of course, eventually seek their advice, but until then I am still worried and not sure if the problem has passed.
So I would like to ask what it means bile in the stomach? Where did she come from? Dad had some stomach and liver problems, but it was never serious. The attack of pain my dad suffered greatly disturbed me, and I wouldn’t want him to have to go through it again. So where does this bile in the stomach come from? Could this be the result of a not very healthy diet? Dad likes to eat a lot of fatty things, he eats meat practically every day. Could this be the cause of the symptoms? Will Dad have to go on a diet after he leaves the hospital? I will be grateful for help.
The doctor explains what the bile in the stomach shows
From what you describe, it probably happened bile reflux into the stomach. Bile is the digestive secretion produced in the liver and is responsible for the digestion and absorption of fats. It is produced by the liver cells and is stored in the gallbladder. Fat-rich dietary content causes the bile stored in the follicle to be secreted into the duodenum, where fat digestion takes place, and then enters the intestine with other digestive juices, ensuring the optimal pH for pancreatic and intestinal enzymes.
However, if the bile is thrown up the digestive tract, i.e. towards the stomach, and sometimes even the esophagus, we are talking about bile reflux. This condition is characterized by symptoms such as: epigastric pain, often very intense, frequent heartburn, nausea and vomiting with green-yellow content, sometimes there is also a cough and weight loss.
The cause of this condition may be insufficient muscle tone of the pylorus of the stomach, which, after passing the food contents from the stomach into the duodenum, should close tight enough to prevent the retrograde passage of food contents back to the stomach. The cause of the abnormal muscle tone may be a condition after previous gastric surgery, peptic ulcer in the stomach, especially in the distal part, or as a side effect of cholecystectomy.
When it comes to treating bile reflux, unlike gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, where gastric reflux into the esophagus, dietary prophylaxis is not as important as in the above-mentioned GERD. Treatment is mainly pharmacological with ursodeoxycholic acid or proton pump inhibitors. The doctor may also suggest surgical treatment if conservative treatment is unsuccessful or if a precancerous lesion is found in the samples taken from the endoscopic examination.
