What is the BI-RADS 2 indicator? What is this system about? Who uses it? How should the results be interpreted based on this scale? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.

What is BI-RADS 2?

Good day. Recently, I made a decision to finally do all the basic research. In addition, I also decided to do a mammography. I started reading more about the study itself and it caught my attention BI-RADS term 2. I have already read a bit about it, but I would like to ask for any information on this topic. I found out that this was the standard for describing research, but found no details. Perhaps I missed something or came across inappropriate pages where I was not all listed news about BI-RADS 2.

My main concern is whether this is a system that doctors use at least all over Europe. As I mentioned, I am going to have a mammogram, but soon I am also going abroad and I would like to take these results with me so that I can show them to the local doctors if necessary. By the way, I would like to add that I am going to France for at least 2-3 years, and in the meantime I may visit Italy and Spain. Therefore, is it possible that in a few years, for example, BI-RADS 3 or 4 will be created and that my current results will cease to be valid? Thank you for your help. Regards, Weronika.

The doctor explains what BI-RADS 2 is

Madam, the BI-RADS rock is a scale created by the American Radiological Society that classifies changes visible in ultrasound or mammography, and at the same time offers a proposal for further treatment with recommendations for patients. The scale is used not only in Poland, but also in other European countries.

The BI-RADS scale includes categories from 0 to 6. BI-RADS 0 requires additional imaging tests to be able to make a complete diagnosis. In turn, BI-RADS 6 stands for diagnosed and histopathologically confirmed breast cancer. BI-RADS 2 means normal examination, including the presence of benign changes such as simple cysts or small fibroadenomas. These changes do not require surgical excision or more frequent imaging control than generally recommended. When it comes to knowing the scale in Europe, no matter which country you go to, doctors will be able to use the BI-RADS scale.

As for the future, we are not able to determine whether you will experience changes classified as BI-RADS 3 or 4a. They can arise regardless of the presence of current changes. Your result is correct, so I see no cause for concern. Please remember about regular gynecological examinations.
