What do heart rhythm disturbances indicate?

Hello, I have had health problems for some time, I am 57 years old now, so it does not surprise me, but there is one thing that is bothering me. What does an uneven heartbeat show? I started to feel this uneven heartbeat a few months ago, my heart symptoms appear irregularly – sometimes it makes sense because flutter I feel after some effort, but there are times when I feel this symptom while sitting or eating dinner. My uneven heartbeat lasts several minutes, never more than half an hour. It happens that uneven heartbeat is accompanied by a slight feeling of breathlessness.

I did some basic tests quite recently – morphology and urine tests, but all the results are normal. The blood pressure is also around 140/90 most of the time, but my doctor says it’s okay. My only problems are with my kidneys and slightly elevated cholesterol, but it probably shouldn’t be related to my heart. Please tell me what the uneven heartbeat shows? Should I see a cardiologist right away with heart symptoms? Or maybe such an uneven heartbeat is nothing disturbing at my age. Is an uneven heartbeat somehow healed since it occurs rarely and I have no other symptoms?

The doctor indicates possible causes of uneven heartbeat

Madam, causes of heart palpitations there may be many. Heart palpitations are described as unpleasant, usually irregular and with increased intensity, the feeling of the heartbeat. The main causes of this symptom include heart disease, primarily arrhythmias (including atrial fibrillation or supraventricular tachycardia), ischemic heart disease (which most often results from the presence of severe atherosclerotic changes), heart failure or heart defects (in this case the symptoms most often appear at a young age).

In addition to heart disease, differentiation should take into account psychological disorders, including depressive disorders, neuroses and panic attacks. Apart from the aforementioned causes, palpitations can also result from metabolic disorders. They are especially common in hyperthyroidism or hypoglycemia. It is a pity that you did not write or use any drugs, because some groups of drugs may also be responsible for the presence of heart palpitations. These include, but are not limited to, anticholinergics, beta-blockers, nitrates, and digitalis glycosides. As you can see, the causes can affect any system of the human body.

I suggest that you go to your family doctor who will order basic tests, including laboratory tests of blood and ECG. If necessary, you will be referred to a specialist for further diagnosis, depending on the suspected cause of your condition.
