Why can a lump appear on the testicle? Why is there swelling and pain in the scrotum? What can this show? Which specialist should you go to? What does the diagnosis look like? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.

Why can a lump appear on the testicle?

Good day. I am asking you to explain the problem with which I have been struggling for several days. On Monday (three days ago) I noticed a strange lump appeared on my testicle. It is located on the left testicle under the skin. Initially, apart from this lump, I did not notice anything disturbing, unfortunately until yesterday. Additionally, there was swelling of the scrotum and dull pain within it. Pain also comes when I touch that lump on the testicle.

I have no problem with urinating. I coped with the pain by taking painkillers. However, the swelling and lump remained. I don’t remember hitting my testicles and I haven’t had any trauma. I have intercourse with a permanent partner. I don’t know what it may be saying a lump on the testicle. I’m still quite young (25) and I’m afraid it might be cancer. I don’t know what might have caused this lump to develop. I am a healthy person, I do not have any chronic diseases and I have not had any viral infections recently.

Please let me know what this lump is showing. Which doctor should I see? What treatment will be appropriate? I will be grateful for your response. Regards.

The doctor explains the reasons for the appearance of a lump on the testicle

Dear sir, I regret that you did not provide more detailed information, especially what is the exact location of this lump. Symptoms such as severe pain in the testicle, swelling, redness, and a palpable lump may indicate inflammation in the testicle or surrounding structures. First of all, epididymitis should be considered. Unfortunately, without an examination, I am not able to help you, so you should see a doctor, preferably a urologist.

Of course, besides epididymitis, there are other potential causes for your condition to be considered. Acute pain in the scrotum may indicate testicular torsion. However, I do not think that should be the case for you, because in this condition the pain is very intense, even unbearable. If the testicle torsion has occurred, time is very important due to the possibility of losing the testicle in the event of prolonged torsion, and thus testicular ischemia.

Another cause a palpable lump in the testicle which should be mentioned is a malignant tumor of the testicle, especially seminoma. Unfortunately, seminomas often occur in young men aged 20-25, sometimes the only symptom may be a palpable tumor on the testicle or enlargement of the entire testicle. As you can see, every testicular abnormality should be urgently examined by a urologist. Your doctor may recommend an ultrasound of the scrotum to visualize the testes and adjacent structures.

Ultrasound examination also enables an initial diagnosis of a testicular tumor. Unfortunately, it is impossible to make a complete diagnosis with ultrasound. Only the removal of the testicle and subjecting it to a complete histopathological examination enables the diagnosis of a specific type of cancer. Please remember that testicular tumors have a good prognosis and can be cured almost XNUMX% if detected at an early stage.

In the case of testicular or epididymitis, anti-inflammatory drugs are most often used along with antibiotics.
