What might a high MPV score in morphology indicate? Is this a symptom of serious diseases? Should I have an elevated MPV result, do I need to perform any additional tests? The question is answered by the drug. Anna Mitschke.
What might a high MPV score in morphology indicate?
Good day. I have recently done some basic research, including a blood count and urinalysis. It is true that I do not have a follow-up appointment for some time, but I was concerned about one of the results, namely high MPV score in morophology. So far, I have not had any health problems and the results have always been normal. Meanwhile, quite a lot has emerged elevated MPV and I’m a little afraid of that. I was looking for information on this, but it still puzzles me what is cause of high MPV in morphology.
Could this be a symptom of some more serious illness or is everything okay? The other results are either okay or borderline normal, only MPV standard in morphology it is so much elevated. I’m afraid the doctor may underestimate this, so I’d rather consult with me if I should do any additional tests with an elevated MPV morphology score? Or maybe this is an unambiguous symptom and you can immediately tell what the high MPV results from? I would like to kindly ask you for information on what this indicator is responsible for and what the increased MPV is related to.
The doctor explains the causes of elevated MPV in morphology
Complete blood count is a commonly performed test. It allows the number of morphotic elements of blood to be determined and some of their features to be assessed. There are a number of cells in the blood. Platelets, otherwise known as thrombocytes, are the smallest blood counts.
They are mainly responsible for the hemostasis process. Haemostasis is a series of mechanisms that prevent excessive blood flow while ensuring its proper fluidity and flow. Total platelet count, major platelet count and average are measured in the blood count plate volume (MPV). Additionally, an index of the spread of the volume of the tiles is calculated. Normal values for the mean plate volume (MPV) are 7,5-10,5 fl. Values below normal indicate impaired thrombopoiesis (platelet formation). Increased values occur in thrombocytopenia and may indicate loss or destruction of platelets.
Symptoms of thrombocytopenia include bleeding from the skin, mucous membranes. Often there is a tendency to the formation of bruises, commonly known as bruises. Petechiae may appear. There is excessive, prolonged bleeding, e.g. after tooth extraction at the dentist. Patients with thrombocytopenia may observe bleeding from the gums, from the urinary tract. Gastrointestinal bleeding is another symptom of thrombocytopenia.
This is manifested by vomiting with blood or coffee grounds (resembling coffee grounds), as well as a change in the appearance of the stool. The causes of thrombocytopenia There are many. The parameters in the morphological study should be assessed jointly and not in isolation from the rest. Therefore, it is essential to see the rest of the results. Additionally, all laboratory tests should be considered based on the clinical picture. Information about past diseases, current symptoms, and hereditary burdens is important.
I propose to consult the test results with your family doctor. After reviewing the patient, the doctor will decide on further treatment. If necessary, he or she will order additional tests, refer you to a specialist and implement the necessary treatment.
