Why do uterine contractions appear? Why are contractions so painful in one woman and not at all in another? Why do women develop uterine contractions? Are strong uterine contractions a sign of illness? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.
Why do uterine contractions appear?
Hello, I am 18 years old and since I can remember they have always accompanied me painful periods. Uterine contractions I associated it with childbirth and nothing else. Meanwhile, I recently read that uterine contractions are these pains during menstruation. So I can’t imagine what a woman who is giving birth must feel, and the contractions are much stronger. However, I would like to know what are the evidence of uterine contractions? Why are they so painful in my case, and my friend hardly feels them at all – I mean, but not so intensely.
Talking to her about it, I started to wonder if my body is okay? Are such painful periods normal, or are they related to some disease if I experience more uterine contractions? Why exactly are a woman experiencing these uterine contractions? That is, I am interested in their role apart from the aforementioned childbirth. I know that uterine contractions during labor make it easier for a baby to come into the world by pushing it out. But are contractions even needed during the normal menstrual cycle? What else do they do besides pain and tormenting a woman?
The doctor explains why uterine contractions appear
Primary dysmenorrhea, or primary dysmenorrhea, is characterized by recurrent lower abdominal pain coordinated with the occurrence of menstruation in the face of excluding other causes of pathological pain in this area. Primary dysmenorrhea is caused by yes intense uterine contractionsthat they cause uterine ischemia. Prostaglandins released during the first days of menstruation are responsible for the cramps.
Uterine contractions during menstruation, unlike labor contractions, are irregular and uncoordinated, frequent, about 4-5 per 10 minutes. When the pressure in the arteries of the uterus exceeds the systemic pressure, the muscles are ischemic, resulting in lower abdominal pain. Individual differences, i.e. the fact that one patient experiences severe pain during menstruation, and the other does not feel it practically at all, depends on this mechanism. Not every patient has contraction pressure so high as to cause ischemia and, as a result, pain.
In studies, however, as many as 50-90% of women of reproductive age complain of pain during menstruationespecially at a young age and if you have had painful periods from your first period, the cause is usually primary and there is no need to look for other causes of pain in the lower abdomenif there are no other disturbing symptoms. If you suddenly get worse abdominal pain during your period, or if you haven’t had it before and are now painful, you have dyspareunia (pain during intercourse), bleeding that is more intense than usual or beyond the time of your period, irregular bleeding – look for a secondary cause of this condition e.g. endometriosis, uterine fibroids, endometrial polyps.
If pain causes problems with normal functioning in society, it should be treated. Your doctor may recommend non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that inhibit prostaglandin synthesis, the underlying cause of primary dysmenorrhea. The second-line treatment is hormone therapy if the treatment with NSAIDs does not bring the expected results. Visit your doctor for advice on appropriate pain management.
