What do headaches and nausea indicate? What causes a headache and accompanying nausea? How to fight these ailments? What tests should be performed? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.

Why does the headache and nausea appear?

Hello, I would like to ask what they testify to headache and nausea? I have such problems more and more often, most often in the morning. I wake up in the morning with a severe headache and sometimes nausea. There are days when it is just a headache, but most often it is accompanied by less or more nausea. I will warn you right away that I am not pregnant and this one the cause of the nausea I reject from the very beginning. because it is not possible in my case.

I have headache and nausea with varying degrees of frequency. Most often, several times a month and either last most of the day or altogether with varying intensity throughout the day. It worries me because I don’t know what they can be causes of headache and nausea and how should I deal with them. I must admit that they make my normal functioning very difficult. I have already tried using painkillers after having a headache and feeling sick, but this does not completely solve my problem, nor does it improve my symptoms.

The doctor advises on what to do in the event of headache and nausea

Vomiting and nausea can occur in different types of headache. One is migraine, which usually begins in children, adolescents or young adults and often goes through 4 phases: prodromal, aura, pain attack, and postdromal. Aura phase – affects about 15% of migraines and may occur before or during a pain attack. These are usually visual symptoms such as: optical effects, e.g. flashes of light, weak or no vision, tingling sensation in the legs or arms, difficulty speaking, hearing sounds. The pain attack may last up to 72 hours and without treatment, the pain itself usually affects one hemisphere and is throbbing. Symptoms accompanying a seizure include photophobia, phonophobia, and changes in the sense of smell and taste, vomiting and nausea.

It is also worth trying a herbal supplement that will be a natural support for immunity. It includes, among others manganese, sea buckthorn and red grapes.

Cause of headache with nausea also may be an increase in intracranial pressure, caused e.g. by tumor mass, fluid mass, infection, metabolic dips, or systemic disease. Often, such pain affects only one hemisphere and does not change sides, there are also visual disturbances or visual phenomena.

Are you seeing disturbing symptoms? Analyze them yourself in the medical questionnaire and decide whether to go to the doctor.

Red flags also include a headache that occurs in the morning, improves when you switch from a lying position to a sitting position, and gets worse when you bend down; double vision, balance disorders – all these symptoms may indicate an increase in intracranial pressure, resulting in chronic, daily worsening headaches with chronic nausea.

It is best to go to a family doctor or a neurologist immediately. A neurologist, unlike a family doctor, will be able to order more advanced imaging tests if, based on the history and physical examination, there will be messages for suspicion of the presence of intracranial mass.

You should see your doctor as soon as possible if you develop symptoms such as: a sudden, strongest headache in your life; when the headache is accompanied by fever, neck stiffness, confusion, double vision, weakness, dullness, speech problems; the headache occurred as a result of an injury; especially a headache that is getting worse; chronic headaches that worsen after coughing, exertion, sudden movement.
