Why does nose bleed occur? Which specialist should you go to for further diagnostics? Can they be related to serious diseases? Could hemorrhages be neurological? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
Symptom of what diseases are nosebleeds?
Good day. I would like to know what they can testify to frequent nosebleeds. I am a 27-year-old man who leads a normal life. I am not seriously ill for anything, only what unfortunately I am treating for hypertension, which was diagnosed with me three years ago. For about 2-3 months I have had frequent nosebleeds. Initially, they appeared 2 to 4 times a week, now it is almost every day.
They appear suddenly, whether I am at home, at work or shopping at the time. There is no rule for their appearance. I don’t know what could be the cause of frequent nosebleeds at my place. The only thing I noticed is that when I get a nosebleed, my head hurts a bit. Pain goes away after a hemorrhage. They did not appear in anyone in my family.
Which doctor should I go to to diagnose their cause? What can these frequent nosebleeds mean? Can they be the basis of some serious disease? Maybe when a headache occurs, it has a neurological background? Or maybe it is related to my high blood pressure, but after all, she is constantly monitoring it and taking medications. I am asking for advice.
The doctor tells you what may be the cause of frequent nosebleeds
Dear sir, hypertension is one of the more common causes of nosebleeds. High blood pressure increases the risk of rupturing blood vessels, especially small ones with a thin wall. I wish you had written what your blood pressures have been recently. Please note that high blood pressure can burst blood vessels not only in the nasal cavity but also elsewhere in the body. Particular danger occurs in the blood vessels of the brain.
Hypertension is one of the main causes of hemorrhagic strokes with a very unfavorable prognosis. That is why proper blood pressure control is so important. If, despite the use of drugs, there are persistent high pressures for a longer period of time, the chronic treatment should be modified and, possibly, a reliever medication to lower the pressure, such as captopril, should be used.
As for other causes of nosebleeds, bleeding disorders should be taken into account. There are vascular diathesis resulting from the weakening of the blood vessel wall, plaque diathesis resulting from the deficiency of platelets or their abnormal functioning, plasma diathesis resulting from the deficiency or complete absence of plasma coagulation factors. Importantly, such deficiencies can be acquired as well as congenital. Bleeding disorders can be caused by myeloprolifeiative diseases, such as myeloid leukemia.
When it comes to laryngological causes, it is necessary to take into account the abnormal vascularization of the nasal mucosa, the development of various types of cancer or chronic inflammation of the mucosa. Also, excessive exercise can lead to nosebleeds.
Topical medications should not be forgotten. Vasoconstrictors, especially when used chronically, may lead to ischemia and damage to the mucosa, which will be manifested by bleeding. I suggest you visit your family doctor.
