Why do children have dark circles under the eyes of a child? Could this be a symptom of a disease? Does the lack of additional symptoms mean that there is nothing to worry about? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.
Why do children have dark circles under the eyes?
I noticed in my daughter that she is terrible dark circles under eyes. She was neither sick nor complained of any complaints. He behaves normally – that is, he plays, laughs, runs, jumps and has an appetite as usual. I did not notice that she was depressed or not sleepy. Usually he sleeps for about 10 hours, goes to bed regularly at the same time. That’s why the dark circles under my eyes worry me so much, because I can’t see why they should look like this. A friend says that she may be lacking some vitamins or it may be some unidentified disease. I was terribly upset and irritated by her words.
I don’t even want to browse the Internet and make my own diagnosis, because it’s never associated with anything good. That’s why I decided to ask here. What do dark circles under a child’s eyes show? My daughter is 7 years old and has never had any serious illness. As kindergartens she was hit by diseases more often, but you know – the immune system was developing and it is usually the case that such small children catch a runny nose, cough and colds. However, now she has not been ill for a long time and has a runny nose very rarely. I am asking for help and clarification what are the evidence of dark circles under the eyes of a child of this age? Regards.
The doctor indicates possible causes of dark circles in the child’s eyes
Pediatricians see them in their medical practice every day children with dark circles under their eyes and is rarely a symptom of serious illness. Dark circles are more likely to be seen in children with fair, milky complexion and fragile skin (they usually also have light eyes and light or red hair). Dark discoloration of the veins it is more visible under light, delicate and thin skin than under darker and thicker skin. However, the genetic basis plays a role here. If the child’s parents have dark circles under the eyes, the child will also have dark circles under the eyes and this is usually due to the genetically determined presence of delicate skin in the area under the eyes. Even so, it is a common cause of concern for parents. Dark circles under the eyes are not a sign of anemia, iron deficiency, or lack of sleep.
The second most common cause of dark circles in children is stuffy nose caused by infection or an allergy. Swelling of the nasal mucosa leads to stagnation in the nasal venous vessels, as a result of the dilatation of the venous vessels around the eyes, causing a dark discoloration of the area under the eyes. In this case, especially if the substrate is allergic, there are also symptoms such as swelling around the eyes and a transverse nasal crease.
If, in addition to dark circles under the eyes, the child also has other symptoms, it is worth making a comprehensive e-packet for toddlers, thanks to which it is possible to assess the health condition.
The stagnation can also be caused by the presence of an enlarged pharyngeal tonsil, which causes snoring at night and mouth breathing during the day. These diseases can cause obstructive sleep apnea and it may be suspected if dark circles are accompanied by the symptoms mentioned above.
Of the more serious diseases that can cause not only dark circles under the eyes, but even “black eyes”, manifested as spectacle hematomas in a child who has not suffered any trauma to the head and facial skeleton. This is a symptom of neuroblastoma metastasis to the periocular area. However, it affects infants in 40% of cases, and the average age at which this cancer is detected is 17.3 months. In 90% of children, they appear before the age of 5. It is a very rare tumor, 70-80 patients are diagnosed with neuroblastoma annually in Poland.
