What is hyperinsulinemia? What foods should you eat in case of hyperinsulinemia? What products should I avoid? The question is answered by the drug. Anna Mitschke.

What should I eat in case of hyperinsulinemia?

Hello, my name is Joanna, I’m 26 years old and I am recently diagnosed with hyperinsulinemia. I know it is basically related to insulin resistance I have been struggling with for several years. However, I was not fully informed how to behave in case of hyperinsulinemia.

Therefore, I would like to ask a few questions. Exactly what kind of diet should I follow, should I eliminate some products and introduce other products instead? What should I eat and what not? What should I drink and what shouldn’t I drink? On the Internet I find a lot of contradictory information about diets in hyperinsulinemia.

Please also let me know what symptoms of hyperinsulinemia they may appear in my case when I do not follow a proper diet. In addition, I will ask right away, because it is a very important question for me, can there be problems with getting pregnant due to hyperinsulinemia? I am also asking for advice on how to treat it and is it curable at all? Thanks for every answer. Regards

The doctor explains what diet should be introduced in case of hyperinsulinemia

Insulin is a hormone produced in the beta cells of the pancreatic islets. It plays a key role in the endocrine economy of the body. It is primarily responsible for glucose metabolism. Glucose is a simple sugar that provides the energy necessary for life. Thanks to insulin, the glucose in the blood enters the cells. There is a deficiency of this hormone stan hyperglycemia. Insulin resistance is a condition in which cells are insensitive to insulin.

Often, insulin resistance is associated with hyperinsulinemia – excessively high levels of insulin in relation to blood glucose levels. This is because the pancreas makes more insulin to try to make up for the reduced effects of insulin. Excess insulin in the blood can lead to hypoglycaemia – a drop in blood glucose below normal. This condition is manifested by trembling hands, palpitations, general agitation, strong feeling of hunger, cold sweat. It is a life-threatening condition.

A patient with hyperinsulinemia may develop diabetes mellitus as manifested, inter alia, by increased thirst, frequent urination, weight loss. Insulin resistance accompanies the polycystic ovary syndrome. It may be difficult for women with this condition to become pregnant. Dietary recommendations in insulin resistance include a reduction diet, rich in antioxidants, products with a low glycemic index, avoiding the consumption of excess carbohydrates – wheat bread, rolls, cakes, sweets, sweet drink.

You should choose to drink water, possibly fortified with lemon juice. You should avoid processed and ready-made products containing glucose-fructose syrup and trans fats. Sea fish consumption should be increased. In addition to introducing changes to your diet, you should not forget about regular physical activity. Moderate aerobic exercise is recommended, e.g. walking, swimming, cycling, Nordic walking.

Please remember that state of insulin resistance should be checked regularly. If you have any doubts as to whether you have any disturbing symptoms, please see your primary care physician.
