What does the stinging under the left rib mean? Could it be related to heart disease? Which specialist should you consult with such ailments? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.
What does the stinging under the left rib mean?
Good morning, I’m 31 years old and have been teasing me a lot lately stabbing under the left rib. I know, I should consult a doctor about it, but first of all, the line to see a specialist is very long, and besides, I don’t know which doctor to consult with my ailments – a cardiologist? Gastrologist? The internist said it might be nervous, but I haven’t had any major stress lately and the stinging under my left rib doesn’t go away. I wonder if this could be related to heart disease?
However, apart from being unpleasant pain symptom under the left rib, I have no others that might indicate anything disturbing. Please let me know what the stinging under the left rib may mean and with what specialist should I consult my ailments? Should I do any specialist examinations beforehand? Maybe heart tests? I will also point out that I haven’t had any accident, no fractures or bruises so that I can tie them under my left rib. I am asking for all the possibilities that I may have, because ignorance overwhelms me and makes me even more nervous. Regards.
The doctor indicates the likely causes of the stabbing under the rib
Madam, stabbing in the left subcostal area it can be of a nervous nature, even if you haven’t been through severe stressful situations recently. In general, chronic stress, such as that related to work, can manifest itself in this way. Very often, stabbing pain in this area may result from degenerative changes or discopathy or other spine diseases.
The pressure on the nerve fibers coming out of the spinal canal may just be manifested by stabbing pain radiating to the chest. In the case of more severe changes, apart from pain, sensory disturbances or mobility disturbances are observed, which, however, is easier to observe in the case of sciatica. In addition to abnormalities in the spine, local inflammation or degeneration in the thoracic region should also be taken into account. Damage to muscle fibers or inflammation of tendon attachments to the ribs may cause acute, stinging pain symptoms.
Of course, in differentiating pain in this area, apart from the causes of the musculoskeletal system, it should also be taken into account cardiological diseases. Pain in the upper abdomen or lower ribs may be the so-called ischemic heart disease mask, although it is rarely the only symptom of the disease. I suggest that you visit your family doctor for basic tests, including ECG, chest X-ray and blood laboratory tests, in particular blood counts and CRP protein.
