What might the tight period indicate? Could this be a symptom of pregnancy? Is this a cause for concern? Should a doctor be consulted? The question is answered by the drug. Anna Mitschke.
What might the tight period indicate?
Good morning! I am 31 years old and problem with menstruationwhich I have never had before. In fact, I’m not even sure if it’s a problem or something normal. I always menstruated regularly and my periods lasted about five or six days, with the first three days being more intense and then less. Recently, however, I had a lot meager period – lasted only three days and during that time was very little abundant.
What could a tight period mean? I have not changed anything in my lifestyle, I have not taken any medications during this period and I have not noticed any other symptoms. However, the period was very tight, and that bothered me a bit. I don’t suspect that I am pregnant, but if I had, my period would not have come at all. Meanwhile, I’m sure it was a tight period, not spotting, because it was a bit more intense after all. I don’t know if I panic too much or should I make an appointment with a doctor and check it out? I have never had such a tight period and I fear that the tight period may be a symptom of some problems.
The doctor explains the reasons for the meager period
When are we talking about menstrual disorders? A normal menstrual cycle is regular, it lasts 28 +/- 5 days, with blood loss from 50 to 100 ml, with the current ovulation. Menstruation, i.e. cyclical vaginal bleeding, lasts from 3 to 7 days. Menstrual disorders may be caused by hormonal disorders or organic changes in the genital organs. Abnormal menstrual bleeding may be chronic, intermenstrual or acute. Chronic bleeding occurs when bleeding occurs with abnormal regularity and / or volume for 6 months. Bleeding between periodsas the name suggests, they occur between expected periods. In contrast, acute bleeding requires immediate intervention due to the volume of blood lost and the health consequences.
Do your symptoms require medical consultation? Check it out for yourself in a short medical interview.
Scanty menstruation, technically known as hypomenorrhoea, correspond to blood losses of less than 30 ml, usually lasting less than 1-2 days. Their cause may be hormonal disorders, e.g. hyperprolactinaemia, functional hypothalamic insufficiency or organic changes, e.g. endometritis. Spotting is the tiny amount of blood that is often found in normal vaginal discharge. It is most often seen on underwear or toilet paper, its amount is negligible. Spotting is very common in the early stages of pregnancy. Bleeding early in pregnancy is less common than spotting, but still common. Spotting may result from an injury, e.g. during sexual intercourse, or an infection or erosion in the vagina.
Menstrual disorders, abnormal bleeding or spotting are an indication for consultation with a gynecologist. During an examination with a gynecological speculum, your doctor may see where the bleeding is taking place. Before starting the diagnosis, it is important to examine the patient and get acquainted with a detailed medical history. Certainly, the doctor will want to exclude or confirm the presence of pregnancy.
