What changes await patients from 2022? New prices for hundreds of drugs, a revolution in L4

Since January 1, 2022, the prices of hundreds of drugs have changed. Up to 509 products, patients will have to pay extra. Among them are drugs for schizophrenia and ulcerative colitis. We will pay less for over a thousand products. New drug prices are not the only changes brought about by the New Year. There are also novelties in terms of sick leave.

Some drugs will become more expensive from January 2022

With the arrival of 2022, a new reimbursement notice of the Minister of Health came into force. As agreed, patients will pay more to 509 products. The increases range from PLN 0,01 to PLN 452,70. The biggest change concerns a product containing house dust mite allergen extracts (suspension for injection).

The surcharge for everolimusum tablets, used after a vascularized organ or bone marrow transplant, has increased by over PLN 30. We will also pay more, incl. for drugs used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorders, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease and syndrome, ulcers.

Gross retail prices increased for 63 products (from PLN 0,01 to PLN 2,48). This includes drugs for treatment-resistant epilepsy, tuberculosis, food allergy and chronic diarrhea.

Which drugs are cheaper since January 2022?

Fortunately, from January 1, patients are waiting not only for increases. According to the new reimbursement announcement, we will pay less up to 1 thousand. 183 products (from PLN 0,01 to PLN 121,86). The biggest change concerns the implant used in the treatment of prostate cancer.

The surcharge for the preparation containing rivastigminum used in Alzheimer’s disease decreased by PLN 41. We will also pay less, among others for some medications for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, preparations in the treatment of malignant neoplasms, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, drug-resistant epilepsy.

Gross retail prices fell for 1 thousand. 478 products (from PLN 0,01 to PLN 126,30). The biggest reduction concerns the nebuliser solution containing dornasum alfa, which is used in cystic fibrosis. The price of a subcutaneous goserelin implant for patients with prostate cancer has dropped by over PLN 121.

From January 2022, changes in sick leave

From the New Year, we will also see changes in sick leave. They are supposed to counteract the possibility of being constantly on the L4. From January, the sickness allowance will be up to 182 days and the cause of the incapacity for work will not matter (as reported by Rzeczpospolita, the pool of the next 182 allowance days will be renewed only after 60 days).

– Changes in the regulations do not mean that a person who will be on sick leave for a long time will suddenly be without an allowance – Paweł Żebrowski from the headquarters of the Social Insurance Institution in Warsaw reassures in Rzeczpospolita. – After the benefit period has expired, it will be possible to apply for a rehabilitation benefit from the accident insurance or for a disability pension due to an accident at work, depending on the prognosis of health, he explains.

From January 2022 L4 on burnout?

In June 2019, occupational burnout was entered into the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) with effect from January 1, 2022. According to pulshr.pl, specialists warn that diagnosing occupational burnout is very difficult, therefore, in their opinion, medical examiners must take into account that this disease will constitute a huge field of abuse for people who do not want to work.

– It all depends on the honesty of the doctor, employee and accurate diagnosis. It should be remembered that diagnosing burnout is not easy and can cause symptoms similar to other diseases. Burnout affects many people, although not all are diagnosed and named. In my opinion, it is appropriate for employees to have the chance to take sick leave when they feel they are suffering from burnout. This will allow them to improve their health while it is still possible – emphasized Dorota Jankowska, business unit manager at HRK Pharma for pulshr.pl.
