What Cats Want: 10 Ways To Make Your Pet Happy

We try to do everything we can for our purrs: we buy toys for them, treat them to treats, stroke and comb them out. But there are also less obvious ways to make your pet’s life a little better at home. WHISKAS® experts and the candidate of veterinary sciences, veterinarian Natalya Malkova told us about this.

Cats are by nature low-drinkers. At the same time, when a cat eats dry food, it needs more liquid, so the question becomes very acute.

Raising a cat’s interest in water is quite simple: place several containers of water around the apartment at once. It is better if they are of different sizes. Cats are curious creatures, you know. Therefore, they will not resist the temptation to try a little of each.

The cat’s stomach is adapted to eating frequent small meals. That is why veterinarians recommend feeding your pet several times a day: wet food in the morning and evening, and dry food during the day. But what if the pet does not know the measure?

You can buy him an auto feeder or build a similar dispenser with your own hands. This will require a plastic bottle, scissors, and a ball on a string.

Instructions:

1. Cut the bottle closer to the bottom.

2. Turn it upside down.

3. Place a ball or ball of a suitable size on the outside of the neck. Attach the rope to the bottle cap.

4. Put dry food inside and show the cat how to get food by playing with the ball.

Feed your pet only high-quality food, which is made from natural products, and which contains all the minerals and vitamins the animal needs – for example, WHISKAS.

Often, a cat refuses to go to the toilet because of an unpleasant smell or an uncomfortable litter box. To make her washroom more comfortable and enjoyable, you can hide the tray in a cabinet, drawer, or basket by punching a hole in the side. This will allow the cat to feel safe and private. In the fight against unpleasant odor, add green tea leaves or a couple of drops of valerian to the filler. This will remove unpleasant odors from the tray.

There is no need to wash cats – they have their own rules of personal hygiene. However, if you do decide to do this, it is better to follow some rules so that the undertaking does not turn into a disaster.

Do not bathe your purr in a bathtub, but in a small basin. The water should be around 38-39 ° C. Gently place the pet in the basin and moisten its fur with stroking movements.

Combing a cat is not easy, let alone the mats, which the owners of long-haired pets tirelessly struggle with. To make it easier to get rid of the matted hairballs, sprinkle them with a little dry shampoo, then cut lengthwise with scissors. This makes combing the ball much easier.

Many cat breeders have to part with the dream of having flowers in the house. However, there is a way out of any situation, even several. For example, cover the window sill on which the flowers are standing with double-sided tape. Cats hate sticky places. Another effective remedy is orange peel. Place it in flower pots and the smell will scare away pets. Small flowers can also be hung in planters – practical and stylish.

To prevent your cat from chewing on electrical wires, store them in cable ducts or corrugated tubes. These are available at many hardware stores and are easy to attach. Taking a little time on this, you will protect your pet from great danger.

You turned away for a second – and now your pet is already sitting on your chair. In order not to share one place with your pet for two, make a special cat hammock under the chair or table. Tie a blanket or just a piece of fabric to the furniture legs – the cat will stay with you and will not interfere.

If your pet loves to sharpen its claws on the corner of the sofa or the edge of the wall, then this life hack is definitely for you. Build an angled scratching post for your pet: glue two narrow boards at an angle of 90 ° and tie them on both sides with twine or sisal. Attach to a wall or place near the edge of furniture. The cat will surely like this alternative.

Today the cat, in addition to balls on a string and clockwork mice, has other, much more modern entertainment. If after work you do not want to play with your pet at all, download a special game for cats for it on your tablet (yes, there are some). While your pet is busy playing, you can relax. Just try not to shy away from real games too often – after all, cats need to run, jump and hone their hunting skills.
