What can you make of a pumpkin for Halloween?
Even if you are not going to celebrate Halloween, this is not a reason to ignore such a bright autumn decor element as a pumpkin!

How to make a pumpkin lantern
The pumpkin seems to be specially created for creativity. It makes interesting vases, candlesticks and decorative lanterns. Decorated with grinning faces that look like kind brownies, these autumn fruits will create a special fabulous atmosphere in your home. Bats, vampires, horrible Halloween spirits will amaze not only children, but also adults. Geometric and floral patterns that complement natural material will help to decorate absolutely any interior in an original way.
- Choose only fresh fruits that are not very hard yet.
- To make the pumpkin more pleasing to the eye, choose a fruit without damage and rotting places.
- Cut off the lid of the pumpkin or cut out the bottom with a sharp knife; the second option is more practical, since the pumpkin will be more stable, and the candle can be placed directly on the table, windowsill or on the floor.
- Use a sharp-edged spoon to remove the seeds and pulp from the pumpkin. To make the face easier to cut, scrape the flesh from the inside from the side where you will cut the motif, the ideal thickness is 2,5 cm.
- Transfer the drawing to a pumpkin using carbon paper; you can also pierce the drawing along the outline with a needle or a thin awl.
- To make the carved pattern more pleasing to the eye, lubricate the sections with Vaseline.
- If the pumpkin starts to wilt, put it in water for a few hours.
- Rub the inside of the pumpkin with ground cinnamon or nutmeg, then your lantern will smell fragrant.
- Punch a few holes in the pumpkin lid so that hot air flows up unhindered without frying the pulp.
- To keep the candles inside the pumpkin burning longer, put them in the freezer for a couple of hours.
- In the United States, there are special sets of knives for carving pumpkin, but you can use a regular thin knife or tools for woodworking.
Pumpkin creativity can be done kind – the children will be delighted! If you want to time this event for Halloween, remember: a carved pumpkin is not stored for so long (3-5 days), so it is better to make lanterns out of it just before the holiday.
Pumpkin candlestick, vase and other pumpkin decor
If you don’t want to be limited to a banal pumpkin lantern, you can go ahead and decorate the whole house. Vases, candlesticks, compositions on the festive table, decorative pumpkins wrapped in beautiful braid – everything that is enough for your imagination to create a fun atmosphere.
If you know how to hold a knife in your hands and own the art of pumpkin carving, then you can amaze your loved ones with beautiful openwork patterns. Well, or a cut out cobweb or a flower, which will also add a festive touch.
You can do without a knife and paint the pumpkin with bright colors, decorate with inscriptions or spiders made of wire and decorative stones.
Ghosts, castles, bats and other “mysticism”
You can add mysticism and make funny faces of ghosts, werewolves, draw Dracula’s castle, decorate pumpkins with paper and wire bats, or simply make a composition of candlestick pumpkins.
