On December 7, the Polish government announced that from March 1 it would introduce compulsory vaccinations against COVID-19 among employees of the health care system, uniformed services, and teachers. This, in turn, gave rise to a wave of comments from some representatives of these groups who do not want to be vaccinated. Can such people be forced to take the COVID-19 preparation?
- In Poland, we are dealing with an obligation, not an obligation to vaccinate. In practice, this means that no one can forcibly vaccinate a citizen
- This does not mean, however, that there are no penalties for non-compliance
- People who do not want to be vaccinated may call the Sanepid. There are also financial penalties from several hundred zlotys to even 50 zlotys. zloty
- The first compulsory vaccinations are taken already in the first XNUMX hours of life
- The calendar of compulsory and recommended vaccinations is included in the graphic at the end of the text

Information about not being vaccinated goes to the Sanepid
At the moment, we do not know yet how the law introducing the obligation to vaccinate against COVID-19 among medics, employees of uniformed services and teachers will be constructed. So we can only rely on the regulations that are in force in our country at the moment.
Currently, the person who does not accept the compulsory vaccination is contacted by their clinic, trying to persuade them to take the preparation. If this does not work, an appropriate annotation is submitted to the County Sanitary and Epidemiological Station. Sanepid is obliged to call such a person for an interview and encourage him to vaccinate.

What are the penalties for not vaccinating?
If the intervention of Sanepid is not enough to change a citizen’s mind, a fine is imposed, usually in the order of several hundred zlotys. But this is not the end. In the event that the obligation is still not fulfilled, Polish law provides for further fines and fines.

In total, such a person may receive a fine of up to PLN 50. zloty.
In addition to fines, other means of pressure are also at stake. In the case of unvaccinated children, for example, they may not be admitted to a nursery or kindergarten. It is therefore possible that a similar procedure will also be used in the case of vaccination against COVID-19. Already a few months ago, there was talk of, for example, removing unvaccinated teachers from working with students, as well as sending unvaccinated employees on unpaid leave.
Who is obligated to vaccinate in Poland?
Currently, compulsory vaccinations in Poland mainly concern children who receive the preparations in the first day of life. By their 18th birthday, they are fully vaccinated against 12 diseases.
Medical students, health care system workers and veterinary workers who did not get vaccinated in childhood are also obliged to take some preparations (e.g. against hepatitis B). A separate group consists of “contacts” who may have had contact with tetanus, diphtheria or rabies.
