What can a child eat at 6 months: what to feed, give food
At 6 months, the child can already be introduced to additional complementary foods. This applies more to babies, artificial people should be fed already from 5.
What to give to a baby at this age
It is necessary to start complementary foods rationally, introducing first neutral components, for example, vegetable puree. If you decide to please your baby with fruit juice or puree, then he will no longer agree to vegetables.
Complementary feeding for a child at 6 months should be introduced gradually
Vegetables should be neutral in taste, green or white:
- zucchini,
- peas,
- cauliflower,
- broccoli.
Potatoes must be soaked before cooking so that there is less starch in it. Carrots can be injected no more than 2 times a week.
The first cereals should be made from cereals such as buckwheat and rice, as they do not contain gluten. Do not cook them in milk. Cook cereals in water or add breast milk to them.
Enter fruits after vegetables and cereals. Green apples, as well as peaches and apricots are suitable for a child.
Meat should be administered no earlier than 6 months, unless the doctor recommends otherwise.
The baby needs to add vegetable and butter in the amount of ½ tsp. in a day. Freshly squeezed juices should be added to the baby’s diet a month later.
How to feed a child at different times of the day
From 5 months you need to switch to five meals a day. Breast milk or formula remains the main one, and complementary foods should be introduced in the daytime. A sample kid’s menu is as follows:
- 6.30 – breast milk -180 ml.
- 10.30 – porridge or fruit puree – 100 ml, feed the baby with breast milk.
- 14.30 – vegetable puree with meat 130 ml + water or breast milk.
- 18.30 – breast milk or artificial formula.
- 22.30 – breast milk or artificial formula.
Complementary foods should have a liquid consistency to which the baby is accustomed.
Store food versus homemade food
Preparing food for an infant takes time. In the store, you can buy ready-made jars with the desired puree. They are packaged in small portions and airtight, while most of the cooked food will have to be fed to your family. This is convenient for mums who don’t have the time or desire to cook.
If you decide to cook yourself, then adhere to the following rules:
- Buy intact vegetables by testing them with a nitrate meter.
- Peel the zucchini or carrots, cut into pieces and cook in water for about 20 minutes.
- Beat the vegetables in the puree with a blender, adding a little broth and oil.
- Cool until warm and feed the baby.
Start complementary foods with one type of vegetable, introduce another in a week.
Porridge should be cooked from cereals crushed into flour. You can buy special infant formula. You don’t need to mess around with them for a long time, the main thing is to follow the instructions. If the child does not suffer from allergies, supplement buckwheat and rice with other cereals. Corn, barley and oatmeal will complement the baby’s diet.
It is better to bake the first green apple in the oven and feed the baby puree without a peel.
Diet meats include turkey and rabbit. It is better to buy the first meat in the form of canned puree. From dairy products at this age, soft cheese can be introduced.
The baby’s diet must be replenished carefully, monitoring his condition after a new dish. The main food is still breast milk.
