- Age. Older pets smell stronger. The smell is provoked not only by disease, but also by the aging of the dog’s body as a whole.
- The gender of the dog. Females smell less than males. But not during estrus, during this period the dog ladies “smell sweet” in order to attract the attention of supportive gentlemen.
- Humidity. After swimming in a river or lake or walking in the rain, the dog should be washed with shampoo and wiped dry. Otherwise, being near your pet will be unbearable.

What breeds of dogs don’t smell like a dog?
If you want to find an odorless pet, first of all you should pay attention to the so-called hairless breeds. After all, it is the dog’s hair that emits the strongest “aroma”. These include, for example, the Chinese Crested, Peruvian and Mexican Hairless Dogs.
Dogs with long hair resembling human hair also do not smell, due to the fact that they do not have an undercoat. The most popular long-haired pets are Yorkshire Terriers. But their fur absorbs the surrounding odors well, so it is quite possible that the dog will smell not like a dog, but like cutlets.
Dogs with short, coarse hair without undercoat also do not emit the characteristic smell of the dog.
In addition, their “bristle” practically does not get wet and does not absorb the surrounding aromas. These breeds include Cairn Terriers, Kerry Blue Terriers and many others.
But most of these pets require additional care. The lack of undercoat makes them cold in winter, so these dogs need warm overalls for walking in cool weather. Hairless dogs need to be periodically depilated, lubricated with creams and protected from ultraviolet radiation. And long-haired ones are often washed and combed.
Therefore, it is better to choose a family friend who is suitable in character. After all, with proper care, a pet of any breed will not smell like a dog, and even without it at all.
