Prior to this performance, the singer followed a vegan diet for 44 days with the help of Marco Borges, founder of the 22 Days of Nutrition program. Both Beyoncé and her rapper husband Jay-Z have followed the program several times and eat vegan meals regularly these days. “We developed the 22 Days of Nutrition program because we wanted to start a new era in nutrition. From protein powders and bars to gourmet recipes, use simple plant-based ingredients to create great meals. We create solutions that are not only better for you, but also better for the planet,” the program’s website says.
In the video, Beyoncé revealed that after giving birth to twins, Rumi and Sir, in June 2017, she found it difficult to lose weight. In the first frames of the video, she steps on the scales, which show 175 pounds (79 kg). The singer doesn’t reveal her final weight after 44 days of a vegan diet, but she does show how she eats a healthy, plant-based diet, from training with her team for a performance to showing weight loss after a vegan diet in Coachella outfits.
But weight loss wasn’t the singer’s only benefit. Although she says that achieving results through nutrition was easier than just training in the gym. Beyoncé listed a number of other benefits commonly associated with a plant-based diet, including improved sleep, increased energy and clearer skin.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z have collaborated with Borges on numerous occasions on a 22-day Meal Planning program based on his bestselling book. They also wrote an introduction for his book. In January, the celebrity couple partnered again with Borges for Green Footprint, a vegan diet that provides advice to consumers on eating habits. Beyoncé and Jay-Z will even raffle among fans who have bought a vegan nutrition program. They also promised to inspire fans with their example: now Beyoncé adheres to the “Meatless Mondays” program and vegan breakfasts, and Jay-Z promised to follow a plant-based diet twice a day.
“Plant-based nutrition is the single strongest lever for optimal human health and the health of our planet,” Borges said.
