For the sake of the experiment, the dolls were “settled” in standard urban housing of the Soviet era.
– a photographer from Yekaterinburg. She calls herself a “dollar-photographer”. This is because dolls most often become her models. They become heroes of medieval novels, fairy tales, posing as if for glossy magazines and illustrations of magic books. And once Barbie dolls, Ken and Daniela got into the usual communal kitchen.
Shabby blue walls, shabby furniture, clothesline, decrepit refrigerator (you can hear the roar with which it starts), a rope stretched under the ceiling – these details will echo in many hearts with pain in the heart. And for some it is still a reality. Lara recreated the details of Soviet life very meticulously: wooden peeling windows, packs of salt, soda and tea, triangles with milk, cans and the newspaper Pravda, which takes pride of place in the trash can.
“All the boxes and canned goods are completely made by me. Authentic labels found on Google, printed in 1: 6 scale and glued together. I painted kitchen cabinets with acrylics and aged them with sandpaper, ”says Lara.
The shooting took place in an ordinary cardboard box, inside which the interior fit. By the way, the floor tiles are also authentic. Lara found the image on the Internet, printed the background, “laid out the floors.”
And even the dolls’ faces evoke Central Russian melancholy: Ken (by the way, in this story he is called Grisha) is frowned and stern, like even stubble breaks through his celluloid face. And only the student Barbie still looks at the world with optimism, walking around the kitchen in a short robe.
