What are the treatments for psychosis?
The treatment of psychosis must be implemented quickly, from the first symptoms. It is now accepted that the more quickly and correctly the psychosis is treated, the faster and more complete the cure. Taken early, the treatment would also be more effective4.
Effective treatments exist. They can go through medication (antipsychotics or neuroleptics), psychotherapy and social support if needed. The drugs would help relieve symptoms while preventing relapses. Thus, Clozapine and Olanzapine would reduce the risk of suicide attempt and hospitalization5. In the event of depression associated with psychosis, a combination treatment of antipsychotic and antidepressant would be the most effective.6.
