What is streptococcal infection manifested? What symptoms can be observed in the throat and on the skin? Is it contagious? Can you catch streptococcus from someone else? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.

What does streptococcus manifest?

Good day. I am writing to you with almost the last of my strength. Two weeks ago I returned from a mountain trip and fell ill almost immediately after returning. At first I thought it was a common cold. I have a high fever and a terrible sore throat. I can barely swallow, and the mere thought of having to eat a bigger meal makes me sick. My muscles ache and I have a fever. The fiancée touched my lymph nodes and said they were enlarged.

I am already scheduled for an appointment with the doctor, but I already feel that it is not a common cold. The girl probably looked through all the health websites and told me that it could be some kind of enterocolitis or streptococcus. However, I have had bowel disease before and I doubt that this is it. I would like information on streptococcus then. What are the symptoms of streptococcus (I mean the condition of the throat) i symptoms of streptococcus on the skin. Is it contagious? During our stay in the mountains, we slept in a shelter where, apart from me and my friends, there were a dozen or so people. Every now and then someone sneezed and snorted. Please help. Regards.

The doctor lists the symptoms of streptococcus

Dear sir, streptococci are bacteria and not a disease, therefore we cannot talk about symptoms of streptococcus but about symptoms of diseases caused by streptococci. Your symptoms may, but of course do not have to, indicate streptococcal angina, which is a systemic disease that causes symptoms mainly from the upper respiratory tract. These include severe sore throat, painful swallowing, high fever, discomfort, purulent odor from the mouth, headache, sore and enlarged cervical and submandibular lymph nodes.

Nausea and vomiting sometimes occur, but more often in young children. In the study, you can detect characteristic purulent whitish deposits on the palatine tonsils and redness of the palatopharyngeal arches and the back of the pharynx. Treatment of streptococcal angina involves the use of phenoxymethyl penicillin for at least 10 days. Such a long treatment time is due to the fact that untreated or improperly treated streptococcal angina may result in the development of serious complications, such as rheumatic fever or glomerulonephritis.

The more common and less dangerous complications include peritonsillar abscess or sinusitis. Of course, angina is an infectious disease that can be easily infected through the droplet route. Fortunately, 24 hours after taking the antibiotic, the patient is no longer infectious.

As for skin diseases caused by streptococcus, they include infectious impetigo, which is characterized by the appearance of small, superficial vesicles on an erythematous surface. After rupturing, the bubbles take the form of yellow scabs. Unlike angina, there are no other general ailments.

Of course, it is difficult for me to advise you on the Internet, you need a visit to your family doctor who, apart from collecting an interview and examining you, will also be able to perform basic laboratory tests to facilitate diagnosis.
