Does Sumatripan Have Negative Side Effects?

Good day. For many years I have been struggling with migraines, which significantly hinder my life. I have treated a migraine with several doctors, but the medications recommended sometimes worked for a while, sometimes not at all. Recently, he was recommended to me Sumatriptan for migrainesbut I’m a little worried because I’ve already dealt with side effects of migraine medicationsand in particular the side effects of triptans. The most common symptoms were dizziness and nausea, and sometimes vomiting. In this regard, I would appreciate an explanation of the side effects of Sumatriptan?

I know Sumatriptan is a triptan and I had the most problems with them, so I wonder if Sumatriptan has similar bad consequences that I have to deal with. I would also be grateful for information on whether Sumatriptan is effective in its action and how Sumatriptan fights migraines. Can Sumatriptan really be more effective for migraines than other drugs of this type? Migraine headaches they give me a hard time, so any information about the effectiveness of Sumatriptan in migraine they will be worth their weight in gold to me.

The doctor explains the side effects of Sumatripan

Sumatriptan is registered in the emergency indication treating migraine attacks with aura or without an aura, it means it has been tested for effectiveness, and absolutely it is an effective drug for migraine.

You can read about the frequency of side effects in the summary of product characteristics. Be aware that some of the symptoms reported as side effects are actually symptoms of migraine – that is, nausea and vomiting.

Common (i.e. more than 1/100 but less than 1/10 patients) side effects include dizziness, somnolence, sensory disturbances including paraesthesia and hypoaesthesia, transient increases in blood pressure shortly after taking the medicinal product, flushing, shortness of breath, heaviness, muscle pain, weakness, tiredness.

Very rare side effects include slight changes in liver function parameters. Side effects with an unknown frequency (possibly negligible) are seizures, tremors, dystonia, nystagmus, scotomas, hypotension, Raynaud’s syndrome, ischemic colitis, diarrhea, stiff neck, joint pain, anxiety, sweating, dysfunction eye or heart.

The studies compared the patient’s satisfaction with the use of triptans. The meta-analysis included 916 patients on rizatriptan, 1599 patients on sumatriptan, 502 patients on naratriptan and 701 patients on zolmitriptan. Their satisfaction with the drug used was examined 2 hours after taking it. Patients receiving rizatriptan were more satisfied with their treatment than those taking other triptan drugs. Another study looked at patient satisfaction 24 hours after taking the drug, and again patients taking rizatriptan were more satisfied, free of migraine symptoms than other patients taking other drugs from the triptan group.

If Sumatriptan does not work effectively, it may be worth asking your doctor if he or she would like to recommend rizatriptan, which has been proven to be more effective and has no side effects compared to other drugs in this group.
