Hello. I am 51 years old and a problem that is starting to grow, namely the problem with the eyesight, and more precisely with the eye. I have been wearing glasses for 6 years, this is exactly what I am farsighted, I have noticed that my eyesight has deteriorated for several months, but I work a lot at the computer, so maybe this is the reason. What started to bother me was the returnees right eye pain, the pain pills don’t work, I was making compresses and they didn’t help either. I would like to add that when eye pain begins, visual acuity often decreases, and headaches also appear.
No one in the family has had glaucoma, I have never complained of increased eye pressure, and I have never had a head injury. I am starting to wonder and to fear if they are not the first symptoms of glaucoma. I have an appointment with an ophthalmologist, but only in a month. Whether the onset of glaucoma are also other symptoms, if so what? I also don’t know what they are the causes of glaucoma. Should he use any eye drops until the visit? I know that a visit to an ophthalmologist and a specialist examination are necessary, but I am asking for advice as to what may be the cause of these symptoms and whether there is risk of glaucoma in my case?

Glaucoma is a progressive disease in which the optic nerve atrophies as a result of too much high intraocular pressure. The optic nerve is the connection between the eye and the central nervous system. Thanks to it, the image that reaches the eye is processed and recorded in the brain. The main cause of damage to the optic nerve in glaucoma is too high intraocular pressure. Normal intraocular pressure is essential for the functioning of the eye. There is a fluid in the eye that is constantly produced in the eye.
It is thanks to its constant production and outflow from the eye that the correct intraocular pressure is ensured. Glaucoma is a chronic and progressive disease that results in visual field defects and reduced visual acuity. The incidence of glaucoma increases with age. The first symptoms of glaucoma can be overlooked. This is due to the frequent lack of obvious symptoms. Initially, visual field defects can be compensated for by the other eye or the central nervous system. In the final stage of the disease, the field of vision is significantly reduced, the so-called telescope.

Then the image is seen through a keyhole. As a result of glaucoma, you can lose your eyesight completely. It is important to detect the disease as early as possible because the changes are irreversible. Glaucoma risk factors These include a family history of illness, increased eye pressure, myopia, thin cornea, old age, lipid disorders, low blood pressure, poorly treated hypertension, or chronic stress. Although glaucoma is more common in older people, young people can also get sick. There are two basic types of glaucoma – it is open-angle and closed-angle glaucoma.
