What are the causes of an itchy rash on the body?

What could be the reasons for the appearance of a rash on the body? Could the rash be contagious? How can you relieve the rash and the itching associated with it? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.

Why does an itchy rash appear on the skin?

Good morning, I would like to receive information regarding skin changes, that appeared on my skin about a week ago. Exactly, it’s an itchy rash. There are small itchy spots on my body which are very bothersome for me. Initially, they were only on their legs, but each day they appeared in another place (back, stomach, arms, breasts).

The most tiring thing is that this rash itches the most at night. I can’t sleep because I’m scratching myself all the time. I do not know what it can be. I’m afraid it might be contagious and I will infect my husband and children. Yesterday I visited my family doctor, but he, unfortunately, spread his hands and said that he did not know what it was and would not prescribe me any medications, but he referred me to a dermatologist. However, I have to wait another week and a half for my visit to him.

Please let me know what they can be causes of itchy rash on my body. I would like to add that I am not allergic, I did not change washing agents or cosmetics. I also didn’t change my diet and it seems to me that I didn’t eat anything allergenic. Please help me identify the cause of this rash and give advice on what I should do to reduce it. Thank you and best regards.

The doctor explains the possible causes of an itchy rash on the body

Ladies and Gentlemen, unfortunately not being able to examine you, you will not be satisfied with my answer either. The term itchy rash is very general. There can be many causes, from an allergic reaction to an infectious disease. One of the main causes of an itchy rash is an allergy, be it food or chemicals in washing powders or cosmetics.

I think that in your case we can exclude this particular reason. Common causes of rash are also infectious diseases, including viral diseases such as hand, foot and mouth disease (mainly in children) or infectious erythema. Parasitic diseases such as scabies or fungal diseases should be taken into account, although in these cases there is no rash, but intense, persistent itching.

It is a pity that you did not provide more information about your state of health, it would have facilitated the initial diagnosis.

Unfortunately, it happens that serious diseases can also cause rashes, I mean mainly neoplastic diseases.

I think a visit to a dermatologist is necessary. If the dermatologist is not able to tell immediately what is wrong, he will definitely order laboratory tests, including blood tests. Until the visit, you may use antihistamines, which should reduce or at least reduce the itching. Such drugs include desloratadine, clemastine and cetirizine.

  1. You can book an appointment with a dermatologist at Medonet Market

Your GP can prescribe this medicine, some of which are also available over the counter. I do not recommend applying any powders to the skin that would supposedly reduce the itching sensation as they provide an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. When scratching the lesions, they can be easily introduced into our body, which may result in the use of an antibiotic. When going to the dermatologist, please remember to take all medical records with you.
