A ginekologist, whose Instagram account is watched by over 64 thousand. people, points out that so far there are no scientific studies confirming the effectiveness and safety of herbal tampons, described as “princess vaginal pearls”. The product is advertised as “a natural preparation that cleanses the vagina of toxins”.
The doctor warns that inserting anything into the vagina for 72 hours. threatens health and life. «Septic shock followed by death is the worst-case scenario» – writes.
The manufacturer states that the pearls kill fungi and bacteria. “Perhaps, the doctor writes, there are substances in the composition that can actually be attributed to this type of action. However, there is one big but: keeping anything in your vagina for a long time will encourage the growth of bacteria and fungi […] ».
The gynecologist adds that even if “pearls” are a detox, “the vagina does not need it”.
What are “princess pearls”?
“Princess pearls”, also known as Chinese herbal tampons, are balls made of a cotton casing resembling pieces of a bandage. Herbs are wrapped inside, among which you can find, among others rhubarb root, aloe leaf juice, dragonfly resin extract, roasted alum, Chinese larch and other herbs related to traditional Chinese medicine.
Manufacturers recommend “pearls” as a way to solve many female intimate problems, such as vaginal dryness, irregular menstrual cycles or recurrent infections.
