Hangovers are well known to lovers of strong drinks. Often, having sorted out at a party, in the morning you will have to pay with a headache and other consequences. But the good news is that not all alcohol causes the terrible headaches you’ll suffer from all day long.
The fact is that the severity of a hangover depends on the concentration of various impurities that are formed during the fermentation of alcohol. These impurities give the drink taste and color, but at the same time they are toxic. So, the darker the alcohol, the stronger the hangover from it.
Light alcohol, such as gin or vodka, will cause far fewer hangover problems than bourbon or whiskey.
Based on personal experience, I have compiled a list of alcoholic beverages that most cause a hangover.
Hangover Severity Rating
Brandy
Red wine
Bourbon
dark rum
Whiskey
We immediately apologize to those who had other ideas about Brandy. Things are no better with Bourbon. It contains eight times more impurities than gin, and thirty times more than vodka! Maybe it’s time to think and switch, for example, to Gin and Tonic?
You probably thought that hangover problems happen only with cheap alcohol, but there are no such problems with expensive ones? The answer lies in how well alcohol is filtered from impurities. The better it is filtered, the higher the price and, accordingly, the less headache. At the same time, drinking cheap vodka or gin can have similar effects as drinking expensive bourbon. The situation is aggravated by a large amount of sugar in alcohol, which also leads to a severe hangover. So yes, the more expensive the better. But this rule has its exceptions in both directions.
