One day my daughter, in fifth grade, brought home a notebook with a teacher’s remark written in red pen. It’s a matter of everyday life, a red pen was made to write comments in a notebook. And the handwriting is beautiful – a feast for the eyes. Only one word with a mistake is written: “watch your literacy.” To be honest, I was already speechless. The Russian teacher writes a comment with a mistake! There was, of course, an explanation: a young teacher, a mountain of notebooks, was going to write one word (for grammar), wrote another, it turned out to be a slip of the tongue. But somehow it didn’t comfort me. I called the school and asked how normal it is – not very literate teachers. It was then that I learned that my daughter’s Russian was taught by a very young teacher, that there was not enough staff, that it was even before the first meeting, we had not yet been introduced to the teachers. The head teacher apologized.
Later the teacher called and also apologized. Then I was already embarrassed for my fervor. But in the conversation it turned out that the teacher of Russian and literature also stutters. The girl learned to cope with this violation of diction, but the feeling was as if you were talking to a google translator when you made him read his words. In general, the situation turned out to be extremely awkward. And the teacher worked a quarter and quit. I want to believe that it’s not because of me. But I am still sure: the teacher cannot write with errors in any case.
Therefore, it was strange for me to see the dispute that is now raging on one of the parental forums on VKontakte. It all started with a picture of a blackboard with homework written on it. Curved letters, and most importantly – “PlastElin”. “The teacher writes the assignment in the first grade on the blackboard. And these people teach your children, ”the author of the post commented on the picture. More than 200 comments came in less than a day. And most of them speak out … in defense of the teacher!
“Do not judge harshly at once and do not criticize in public, but come up and TACTICAL say that she INCIDENTALLY made a mistake. An intelligent teacher will thank and be attentive. Perhaps the head teacher has just puzzled her, the school day is ending, the attention is all on the children. These are people, and they also have the right to make mistakes. Or is it that none of us makes mistakes in the workplace? ” – write subscribers of the group. They can be understood – in this quote we have kept the author’s spelling and punctuation. There are at least three errors. How can you condemn someone for illiteracy?
Moreover, this remark is one of the mildest. In defense of the teacher, arguments were made about a small salary, and about the fact that literacy is not the main thing, he would be a good person. “Or do you want an old school teacher, under whom neither your child nor you dare insert a word?” – the inhabitants of the network ask angrily. And here are comments like: “For me, a teacher (of any subject) who writes with errors (on a blackboard, in a diary, in a notebook) is the same as a driver without a license, a veterinarian with a gynecological diploma, an executioner without an ax, finally. Let them write in chats, messages, notes on refrigerators and whatever they like, but not at school ”- there were only a few of them.
In total, most of the discussants (not the fact that they are all parents) concluded that God is with her, with the literacy of the teacher. It’s good that he exists at all. Otherwise, one will be kicked out, the other will be sent to advanced training, and in the meantime the children will grow like grass in a field. “The teacher will say that two plus three is six, the surgeon will cut out the gallbladder instead of the appendix – you will also say that it happens, well, was it wrong?” – these remarks were drowned in an indignant chorus. “Who will teach them? Trolleybus driver? ” – the final note of the discussion.

A teacher’s sense of literacy should be, if not innate, then intuitive. What mistakes can there be?
Any teacher should be able to write competently: physicist, mathematician, chemist, anyone. It is acceptable if the Russian teacher does not understand geometry, but not vice versa.
This is a bad case, but it was not worth bringing it up for public discussion. It was possible to say personally, and not to disgrace the whole city.
