What a child should be able to do at a year and a half: development, classes, what to do
During the period from 0 to 1,5 years, the development of the child is incredibly fast. And if parents see that the baby is lagging behind their peers, they want to know the norm and help the little one catch up.
What should a child be able to do at a year and a half
By the age of one and a half, the baby is showing more and more independence, willingly makes contact, improves his physical, psycho-emotional and speech skills. He begins to feel like a person: he shows his feelings to his loved ones, demands a response to them.
Classes will help the kid learn to do what a child should be able to do at a year and a half.
Toad at 1,5 years old pleases parents with such achievements:
- He walks confidently, can avoid obstacles. The nimble ones even try to run.
- Sits on a chair, goes up and down the children’s stairs.
- He is interested in other children, wants to play with them, copies their actions.
- Tries to get dressed, some kids ask for a potty.
- Plays with the ball, throws it up, down, forward.
- He starts eating himself, uses a spoon, drinks from a cup.
- Likes to look at pictures in books, turns the cardboard pages of children’s books.
- Tries to “paint”.
- Understands the purpose of objects and toys – rolls a stroller, a typewriter.
- Guesses to use other objects, a bench, for example, to get something.
- Shows the rights of “owner” – does not concede a toy.
- Feels music and rhythm, “dances”, responds to the melodiousness of poetry.
- Reacts to facial expressions and requests from an adult. “Spares”, draws attention to himself, grabs the hand.
Every day, the child surprises adults with his rapid forward movement.
Speech development at 1,5 years
At this age, there are already about 40 words in the active vocabulary. These are short, lightweight names of objects, some actions. The child can answer the question of what kind of object it is or who it is. He tries to imitate the speech of adults, which is very helpful.
As for understanding, the baby shows parts of the body, generalizes toys by their appearance – dolls, animals, etc. Fulfills requests to carry or bring something. He readily communicates, uses gestures, exclamations, facial expressions.
Developmental activities for the child and what to do on them
Sometimes parents feel that their child is still below the norm. In this case, remember that no one canceled individual characteristics. Help your child overcome difficulties and stimulate progress.
What to do to help your baby:
- Develop logic: teach your baby to sort objects by color, size, shape, structure or purpose. For example, only balls, or only green objects. Or – square, soft, hard. Collect simple 2-part puzzles with it.
- Play cubes, add the pyramid.
- Develop attention and intelligence: find pairs for an object – a mitten, a sock. Play hide and seek.
- Sculpt from dough or plasticine, do applications – fine motor skills develop speech.
- Read books together, listen to music, talk to your baby. Strive for an emotional response, strive for dialogue.
Praise your baby for any achievements, and the result will not be long in coming.
