Evergreen pine is suitable for large areas. The tree grows to a large size. It needs enough space to grow.
Plant height can reach 70 m in length. Its strong trunk has a diameter of up to 2 m. The crown is thick and lush, irregular in shape. Young specimens have a thin bark. As it grows, it becomes tough and firm, changing from a light gray to purple-brown. Sprawling powerful branches grow upward.
Weymouth pine can reach impressive sizes
The needles grow vertically. The needles form bundles of 5 pieces. Their length can be up to 10 cm. Flexible needles grow unevenly and have a slightly curved shape. This gives the crown an openwork look. Large resinous buds are elongated at the edges.
The white oriental pine has a high growth rate, which is atypical for conifers. Its lifespan can be up to 500 years.
The tree is highly resistant to external factors. Weymouth pine does not need a lot of daylight, unlike other pine species. For cultivation, partial shade is better, but it can also grow in the shade. Large branches withstand strong gusts of wind and heavy snow cover. The plant can be damaged by the high salt content of the soil. It is recommended to grow pine in mixed plantings. Among pests, only a rust fungus can affect it.
Eastern White Pine is grown in large plots. It is often used for industrial purposes. Durable wood is prized for its high quality and beauty. The advantage of this type of plant is also fast growth, resistance and unpretentiousness. There are different varieties of white pines:
- “Makopin” is a dwarf bushy variety. It is used to decorate home gardens. It does not exceed 2 m in height. A distinctive feature is slow growth.
- “Blue sheg” is a spherical dwarf plant of a shrub type. Soft needles need good lighting. Can be grown in containers.
- “Radiata” is a medium-sized tree up to 5 m high. It is grown in compositions or as a tapeworm.
- “Fastigiata” is a tall tree with an annual growth of 30 cm. It is grown for landscaping large areas, parks.
All varieties are not demanding on the composition of the soil. It is enough to provide them with good drainage.
The white pine has many varieties. There are both large and small varieties. It can be grown for industrial use or used in landscape design.
