In the starting article of the project “Getting ready for the summer!” we announced that the first specialist with whom we will talk will be a nutritionist, but, analyzing the topic with specialists, we found out that the endocrinologist is the top priority in this case. And it is necessary to start preparing for the “naked” season with this specialist, because any diet will be in vain if there are endocrine disorders. Our expert is Anzhelika Vladislavovna Chizh, an endocrinologist-nutritionist of the highest category of the Clinical and Diagnostic Center “Mediklinik”.

Endocrinology – the science of the structure and function of the endocrine glands (endocrine glands), the products they produce (hormones), the ways of their formation and action on the body

– Diet ?! This concept is now fading into the background. The diet can only be prescribed by a specialist for medicinal purposes. As a way to lose weight quickly, we remember about it when we need to quickly “throw off” the weight for some event. The diet involves following it for a limited period. When we talk about weight loss in general and about the prevention of overweight, we must remember the principles of proper nutrition and adhere to them every day. Then, in winter, summer, spring and autumn, you will look great, stop preparing for a certain period and lose weight in order to put on your favorite dress!

If you follow the recommendations for proper nutrition, are physically active, and you cannot get rid of excess weight, you need to think: are there any other reasons for obesity. In this situation, before new attempts to lose weight, it is worth checking the level of some hormones that affect excess weight: TSH, free T4 (reflecting the work of the thyroid gland), prolactin (formed in the brain), cortisol (the adrenal glands are “responsible” for it).

You should always look good and feel yourself at the “five-plus”!

– First of all, you need to pay attention to the state of the nervous system – mood, general well-being, fatigue. If the thyroid gland does not work properly and produces few hormones, then, as a rule, there will be complaints such as fatigue, drowsiness, lethargy, swelling of the face and hands may appear. If the thyroid gland produces hormones in excess, the person becomes nervous, quick-tempered, irritable, and he may experience sleep disturbance.

– Yes, sure. A sign of a possible disruption of the endocrine system may be dryness of all skin integuments. Hair loss on the head more than usual should be on the alert. Pay attention to this situation: if the ring is removed, and then it is impossible to put it on. This suggests that there is fluid retention in the body. When hormone levels are disturbed, the hands and face tend to swell rather than other parts of the body. Nails are the last to react to changes in hormonal levels. In the advanced stages of endocrine diseases, fragility and thinning of the nail plate appear. The rest of the signs of hormonal changes relate to medical aspects, because the problems of endocrinology affect almost all areas of medicine and are associated with cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, gastroenterology, nephrology, urology, neurology, gynecology. Interruptions in the work of the heart, fluctuations in blood pressure, menstrual irregularities – these symptoms will be better assessed by an endocrinologist and will give recommendations for further examination.

– If a hormonal imbalance is detected, of course, special treatment is required. The normalization of hormones in the future allows you to physiologically reduce your weight in the usual way – thanks to proper nutrition and physical activity. Hormonal imbalance will not allow you to achieve good results in weight loss!

– The so-called hormones of joy – serotonin and endorphin – are responsible for high spirits. They are not present in any products, that is, they ate the product and are happy, this does not happen. Ice cream, chocolate, sweet waffle, cakes, supposedly containing hormones of joy – this is a myth!

Chocolate contains the hormone of happiness – a myth!

Indeed, the mood-enhancing effect of eating sugary foods is present. But its mechanism of action is very tricky. They are high in sugar. Glucose quickly enters the bloodstream and brain. To this he reacts: “I’m happy! I’m full! ” In this case, the feelings of satiety and pleasure are temporary. After 2-3 hours, when the blood sugar drops, we will come back to the refrigerator, this time to consume whatever we see. After eating, we understand that the heaviness arises not only on the stomach, the psycho-emotional state also changes – we ask ourselves the question: “Why am I so full? Now I will get better! “

– If a person is “drawn” to sweets, then nutritionists have known this for a long time, his body lacks chromium. There is a record holder for the content of this trace element – broccoli cabbage. It is tasty and healthy. Many do not like it and do not eat it for one reason – they do not know how to cook it so that it is delicious. There are tons of recipes available. Look online. Eating a serving of this vegetable once a week will suffice.

– Both specific products and conditions are important for maintaining a good mood. To get pleasure, you don’t have to eat sweets and “deceive” your body! The hormones of happiness and joy are produced in the body itself and are formed not only in the brain, but also in our intestines with the help of beneficial bacteria. It’s that simple! In order for the mood to be good, the hormone of happiness and joy is constantly present in the body, it is necessary to maintain the intestinal microflora in a normal state. Raw vegetables and fruits containing coarse fiber help in this. Foods such as chicken, beef, fish, dairy products, nuts, dried fruits, and many cereals contain tryptophan, a precursor of serotonin. They are especially rich in oats! For fruits, pay attention to bananas. They contribute to the increased production of happiness hormones. All of these “good” foods should be present in the daily diet. Of course, we are talking about a reasonable amount. Just because nuts contain tryptophan doesn’t mean we’ll get more if we put a bag of them in front of us and eat until we run out. Everything is good in moderation! Nuts are high in vegetable fats. They must be eaten by the piece. Average statistical data – 10 pieces, pine nut – dessert spoon. Not more! Tryptophan is converted in our body into the happiness hormone serotonin. But! There is one condition for this transformation – sunlight. Under the influence of sunlight, tryprofan from normal food will be converted into serotonin. And … Here it is – happiness! That is, normal, healthy food can contribute to your good mood and you do not have to eat chocolates, buns, cheesecakes and other sweets in immeasurable quantities!

– No wonder the British eat it for breakfast every day! Oatmeal allows you to release happiness hormones in your body. Here’s the benefit and good mood for you! With a spoonful of honey and your favorite berries, boiled in low-fat milk or in water, it will give you a boost of vivacity and energy for a long time.

– For snacks, use some kind of fruit, individually nuts, dried fruits. Ideal if they took on low-fat cottage cheese. Buy this product of your preferred company, put prunes, cut an apple, you can grate a slice of chocolate on top. When planed, it will appear to be of greater volume. You will get pleasure, satiety, benefit, the body will respond with the production of hormones of happiness. And the eaten cottage cheese will give a feeling of satiety for a longer period than a chocolate bar!

– Not at all! Yes, sometimes experts advise going to a solarium once a week, but the point of visiting it is not in tanning to a chocolate color, but in getting a normal metabolism due to ultraviolet radiation. We, doctors, prescribe it in therapeutic doses! Under the influence of ultraviolet radiation, the necessary substances are produced in the body. There are homemade UV lamps – you can use them too. In general, in winter “catch” sunny days and, for the sake of metabolism, visit a solarium, in summer get natural sunlight and walk more, and even better – do sports in the fresh air!

– There are two hormones responsible for our mood: the stress hormone – cortisol, and the hormone of positive emotions – adrenaline. When we are in a stressful situation, cortisol is released in large quantities. It increases appetite. Hence the everyday expression “seize stress”. It has a hormonal basis. Adrenaline also helps to reduce appetite. In addition, it enhances fat burning in the body. Therefore, among the so-called “adrenaline junkies” there is a smaller percentage of overweight people. Any positive emotions, be it communication with your beloved friend, outdoor games with children, skydiving, outdoor activities with relatives, kart racing, trigger the production of the adrenaline hormone. The main thing is that what you are doing should be a joy!
