Everyone knows about January – a “short month”, about half of which we celebrate the New Year, and in the remaining days we get to work. And after all, almost no one remembers that the tradition of long New Year holidays in our country is only a little over 15 years old. Until 2005, the country rested for only three days: 1, 2 and then another 7 January. Proposals to again reduce the number of days off and holidays are heard every year, but so far these initiatives have not found support either in the government or among ordinary citizens. In 2023, we are again waiting for a long vacation, let’s figure out how we will relax this time.

Finally, the worker has a place to roam. In January 2023, the New Year holidays will most likely last from the 1st to the 8th, inclusive. This interval includes two public holidays: New Year (January 1) and Orthodox Christmas (January 7). We will see the exact production calendar in the fall of 2022.

So, it is clear that in terms of weekends, January 2023 did not offend us. In total, there are 14 of them: eight from the New Year holidays and Saturdays and Sundays in the second half of the month. Thus, we will have a rest in the first month of the new year, first from Sunday to Sunday, from January 1 to January 8, and then we will have weekends 14-14, 21-22 and 28-29.

How to profitably take a vacation in January 2023
If we talk about the financial component, then in principle it will not be profitable to take a vacation in January 2023. In order to get the maximum amount of vacation pay and the remaining part of the salary after them, you need to rest in the month when there are most working days. If you do the opposite, then after all the accruals you will receive less than if you worked all month.
January is traditionally considered the most unfavorable time for a vacation in terms of finances, because it has a minimum of working days. So, if you want to earn more, be patient until a more “working” month.
For the diligent, there is one more piece of advice. Vacation pay is calculated based on the average earnings for the last full 12 months. That is, if at the beginning of the year your salary was increased, do not rush to go on vacation in April to celebrate. It makes sense to wait longer and “accumulate” well-paid months. This is especially true if the increase in salary was significant.
It’s about the same story about bonuses, if you want more vacation pay, write a statement when the bonuses are already accrued. Accordingly, it is undesirable to take a vacation after sick leave – time of disability will reduce the amount of your vacation pay.
With money, it’s clear: if we are chasing profit, we wait until the velvet season (okay, okay, at least until July). But if it is important to rest longer (for example, a long trip is planned), then January is just your month. Take a vacation after the holidays and relax even more without wasting many days. Then also for the velvet season, vacation pay will remain.
Let us recall at the same time that all officially employed citizens are entitled to paid leave if the term of their employment contract is at least six months. The standard length of time off from work is 28 calendar days per year. There are those who have this number more, for example, the military. teachers, doctors, etc.
Ideally, employees go on vacation according to a predetermined schedule, which was approved by the boss at the end of the previous year. Deviations, of course, are possible, but at the discretion of the employer. If you are on the schedule in October, and in the summer you succumbed to an impulse, decided to drop everything and go to the sea, you have every right not to let go. Here is the schedule, please stick to it. Beneficial categories of employees can again go out of the plan – women before maternity leave and immediately after it, or people who have adopted a child under 3 months old.
The vacation application is written two weeks before the start date of the vacation. And at the latest three days before it, you must be paid vacation pay. If you leave in January, vacation pay will be transferred even before the holidays, at the end of December 2022.
By the way, if the office is like a home for you, and you don’t plan to rest at all until retirement, your employer, contrary to expectations, will not be happy, because the labor inspectorate will have questions for him. According to the law, it is impossible to sit without a vacation for an infinitely long time; you need to take a vacation at least once every two years.
