Baby’s 38st week of pregnancy
Baby measures about 50 centimeters from head to toe, and weighs 3 grams on average.
His development
Baby is almost at the end of his growth, he is just waiting for the right time to come out.
The mother’s 38th week of pregnancy
The delivery is likely to take place this week, even though the pregnancy is due next week. We only go to the maternity ward if we have lost water (because the baby is no longer in a sterile environment) and / or we have regular contractions. If this is our first child, we wait to have contractions every 5 minutes for 2 hours. If you have already given birth, labor can be faster, so it is better to leave when the contractions return every 10 minutes, for an hour and a half. It is possible that in the maternity ward, we are offered a recording of the fetal heart rate, more closely.
Our advice
We take a bath, if we feel like it. These are really relaxing moments and it allows us to feel our baby well during the movements he performs. We take advantage of these last moments to rest, even if the lying position is not necessarily the most comfortable. Everything must be ready now to welcome our newborn baby.
Your memo
We check that we have all the necessary papers with us: Vitale card, family record book if we have one, health insurance card, pregnancy file, copy of our possible birth plan, blood group card and results of the assessment prescribed for epidural. Good to know: even if you have decided to give birth without an epidural, you can completely change your mind.
