Week 31 of pregnancy – 33 WA

Baby’s 31st week of pregnancy

Our baby measures almost 30 centimeters from head to tailbone, and weighs approximately 1 grams.

His development

Already in utero, the baby exhibits behaviors that will be that of the newborn, except that he does not cry, cry or suck (it will be for later!). But he sleeps a lot, maybe he is even dreaming, because his eyelids blink as in certain phases of sleep. In his brain, the connections between neurons continue. Her respiratory system also continues to mature so that, on the day of delivery, the baby’s lungs fill with oxygen and her first breath goes well.

The 31st week of pregnancy on our side

It is the beginning of the eighth month. Our uterus has already multiplied its size by 500! Our belly is still rounding, and we even have the feeling that it is accelerating. It’s true. As a result, we often feel like urinating because the uterus is pressing hard on the bladder. It can even wake us up in the middle of the night.

Our advice

It is not easy to sleep well during this third trimester of pregnancy. We feel embarrassed when we are lying down, encumbered by our stomach. Not to mention that sometimes we can have very unpleasant acid reflux in the esophagus. In this case, it is better to fall asleep in a semi-seated position, propping up several pillows behind your back. If we are really embarrassed, the best is to talk to a doctor or midwife, who will prescribe medication compatible with the pregnancy in order to relieve us.

Our exams

It’s time to make an appointment for the 6th prenatal consultation. On the program of this medical visit: a little turn on the scale to control our weight (for its part, we can also control its weight curve), measurement of uterine height, blood pressure measurement, listening to the baby’s heartbeat … We take advantage of these medical interviews to ask all the questions to the practitioner (midwife or doctor) who follows us!
