Baby’s 19st week of pregnancy
Our baby measures almost 21 centimeters from head to tailbone, and weighs around 360 grams.
baby’s development during week 19 of pregnancy
The fetus already has a relatively sophisticated blood system. The heart is formed and it works. The blood has a high number of red blood cells, and white blood cells, which are specific to the immune system, begin to be produced. As for the digestive system, it is mature enough to absorb water and sugars from the amniotic fluid swallowed by the fetus. It is now experiencing phases of deep sleep and light sleep. He always sleeps a lot, but when awake he is very active!
The 19st week of pregnancy on our side
We now burn 500 to 600 additional calories per day. A whole energy devoted to the growth of the baby. From now on, we will also gain more weight… for the benefit of our baby who will grow thicker. We continue, however, to be careful what we eat so as not to gain too much weight. They are not always easy to lose!
If you have a feeling of heavy legs, you don’t worry, this feeling is normal. It is linked to the increase in our blood volume (at the end of the day, venous return is more difficult and the legs may even swell a little). The top? Run his legs under cold water and massage them in the evening with a specific cream (or have our darling do it) going up from the ankle to the knee. We can also raise our mattress at the level of the legs, or sleep with a cushion under the ankles. We also do not wear tight clothes that would interfere with blood circulation.
Our exams
We make an appointment for our third prenatal consultation. As usual, the doctor or midwife will ask us to step on the scale, take our blood pressure, listen to our baby’s heartbeat, measure the uterine height with a seamstress tape and perform a vaginal examination. We will take the opportunity to ask health professionals all the questions that bother us. The idea? We write them down on his phone or on a sheet of paper little by little so as not to forget them once we arrive at the doctor’s office.
