Baby side
Baby measures between 12 and 14 centimeters for a weight of about 200 grams.
Baby’s development during week 17 of pregnancy
All of the fetal organs are in place, but they are not yet ready for use. So the lungs are the last organs to appear. The alveolar sacs (small pockets in which the air will rush at birth) are still forming. Our baby is also moving more and more and throwing the famous little kicks, even if he still sleeps more than 20 hours a day.
Mom’s week 17
This week, we will be able – perhaps – to feel the movements of our baby. They are quite imperceptible at first, and are readily described as a light lapping or the rustle of butterfly wings. It is in any case a very special feeling, often a source of joy. However, pregnancy can also cause mixed feelings. Know that about 10% of expectant mothers have real blues during their pregnancy and some are even downright depressed. If this is your case, we do not hesitate to talk to our midwife or our doctor.
If we are working, there is no legal deadline to inform our employer. But now our pregnancy is visible, so there is no need to wait any longer. Especially since some adjustments are possible if our work is difficult. You can be absent in order to attend the various prenatal visits, without loss of salary. Note that some collective agreements also grant schedule changes to relieve future mothers. If we spend a lot of time in front of the computer, we take frequent breaks, get up and walk. It is also thought to elevate your legs to facilitate blood circulation, to split your meals and to hydrate.
Examinations of the 16th week of pregnancy
We make an appointment for our second ultrasound, in about a month. Carried out during the fifth month of pregnancy, the second ultrasound, called “morphological”, is an essential examination to ensure that our baby is growing well. But above all to detect certain abnormalities of the fetus and possibly decide on special monitoring.
