The geyser allows you to forget about off-season shutdowns and repair work in the highway. You can enjoy a bath or shower all year round if the appliance works properly. But what if the pressure of hot water is weak? We will tell you why the pressure drops and how to fix it yourself.
Why is the pressure in the column bad
Despite the power control on the speaker panel, many users suffer from changes in pressure. Water either goes or does not go, it becomes impossible to take a shower normally. What is the cause of the drops, can it be corrected? Consider the most common of them.
- The power of the equipment does not meet the requirements. You have bought an appliance whose power is not enough to provide the required amount of hot water. It is best to choose a column from 8 to 10 kW.
- Blockage in the system. The water that flows through the main and comes into the pipes contains small debris, pieces of rust, lime particles. A strainer is installed to keep debris at the inlet to the dispenser. Over time, it becomes clogged, so the pipeline elements are periodically cleaned.
- Scale layer. The gas boiler works on the principle of an instantaneous water heater. Here, water does not accumulate in the tank, but passes through the heat exchanger, where it is heated by the burner. During heating, potassium and magnesium salts are formed, which are deposited on the walls of the radiator in the form of limescale. Over time, it grows so much that water hardly seeps out, which is why there is little pressure in the tap.
- The case of technology. During maintenance work, the water supply is shut off. After the resumption, a water hammer occurs, the scale particles in the heat exchanger enter the mixer. This can be seen by opening the faucet: the liquid does not flow well.
- Lack of maintenance. Be sure to carry out preventive maintenance of gas equipment. Check the condition of the elements, remove dirt and clean. How to clean the geyser, read in the previous publication.
- Low pressure. Little depends on the user if there is no pressure in the line. In this case, it is not surprising that there is no pressure. If you want the column to work smoothly, you can include a pump in the system. However, this option is more suitable for residents of the private sector.
There can be many reasons. Carefully inspect the device to identify one of them.
Loss of pressure: how to troubleshoot
What can be done at home to restore the flow?
Cleaning the strainer
The filter is installed at the inlet to the water unit of the boiler. Detaining debris, it does not allow the system to clog. To clear a part:
- Shut off the gas and water supply.
- Disconnect the pipe or flexible hose that leads to the assembly.
- Remove the filter and rinse under running water.
- For heavy soiling, you can use a stiff brush, and also leave the part to soak in citric acid solution.
If defective, replace the filter with a new part.
Descaling
We have already written about effective means and their application. Recall that it is not recommended to use special substances from scale, they corrode the walls of the copper pipes of the heat exchanger. As a result, even more scale forms on the irregularities.
You can also use citric acid to flush the radiator pipes.
Fight against blockage
The reverse flow of water will help to eliminate the blockage in the pipes. If your faucet can be set to the third position, then do this:
- Remove the plug and place a container under the body to collect water.
- Set the mixer to the third position.
- Open both taps. The flow will begin to move in the opposite direction and possibly push out the debris. At this point, water will flow from the column.
Faucet problems
If the blockage has penetrated the details of the mixer, and the pressure has dropped, then you need to clean it. Disassemble the device and wash the rubber hose, filter and other parts under running water.
The reason for the poor feed most often lies in the untimely care of the equipment. Therefore, carry out preventive maintenance at least once a year.
