We take a shower, avoiding 5 main mistakes

Tell me, do you take a shower correctly? Just do not rush to answer, because even such a simple procedure requires a competent approach. We have collected in one article the typical “shower” mistakes that can damage the skin.

How to take a shower

At least once a day, we perform the same actions: we substitute the body under streams of water, lather, wash off the foam, dry ourselves with a towel – and you’re done. But that doesn’t mean we don’t make mistakes.

Mistake 1: too hot water

Yes, a hot shower is not just a hygiene procedure. He helps us:

  • how to warm up in winter;

  • relax after a hard day;

  • “wash away” fatigue and relieve muscle tension.

Plus hot water and steam open the pores, creating the conditions for a thorough cleansing.

Another question is, does the skin like it? No I do not like. High temperature water irritates her, as evidenced by the redness that you have probably seen more than once immediately after a shower. But most importantly, hot water destroys the hydrolipidic layer of the skin, which can lead to dryness, flaking and itching.

According to the rules, you need to wash (by the way, wash your face too) with water, the temperature of which is close to body temperature. For many, this is a little cold, but you have to get out of your comfort zone.

Lower the water temperature by a couple of degrees day after day and you’ll get used to it over time. Well, or at least do not stand under hot water for a long time – five minutes is enough.

Mistake 2: hard soap

By hard, we mean the usual alkaline or antibacterial soap, which cleans the skin “to a squeak”, that is, destroys its protective lipid layer. Where does it end? Correctly:

  • dryness;

  • dehydration;

  • peeling.

However, this mistake can be easily corrected by replacing a bar of soap with a shower gel with moisturizing and nourishing ingredients.

  • Shower and bath gel Coriander, Kiehl’s smells cheerful, gently cleanses and softens the skin. In the composition – aloe extract and hydrolyzed wheat protein, which forms a moisture-retaining film on the skin.

  • Soothing shower gel with protective properties Lipikar Gel Lavant, La Roche-Posay so delicate that it is suitable even for babies. Protects against the effects of hard tap water, contains niacinamide (soothes the skin) and repairing shea butter.

Mistake 3: Too Much Effort

Many people like to rub themselves with a hard washcloth to feel vigorous and energetic. However, it is not worth it to wield it too hard, rubbing the body to redness.

  • First, it irritates the skin.

  • Secondly, you again deprive it of lipid protection.

Experts recommend applying shower gel with your hands – this is the most gentle option. Or with a soft sponge, carefully and delicately.

And exfoliating activities are best done no more than 1-2 times a week with a scrub.

  • Precious Beauty Scrub, Garnier, smoothes the skin thanks to crushed cupuaçu tree seeds, and nourishes and softens due to a complex of four oils.

  • Soft body scrub with soy milk and honey aroma, Kiehl’s polishes the skin with particles of dried loofah fruit (a kind of creeper). Jojoba oil, honey and soy milk are responsible for moisturizing, softening, nourishing the skin.

Mistake 4: using the same sponge for a long time

Do you store a washcloth or sponge on a shelf in the bathroom, that is, where it is warm and humid? We used to do that too, until we realized how easy and carefree bacteria can grow in this environment. And the porous wet sponge itself is a paradise for microorganisms.

If possible, store the sponge in a dry place and rinse thoroughly under running hot water before letting it touch your body.

Mistake 5: Forgetting to Apply Moisturizer

For this mistake, the skin will sooner or later take revenge on you: dryness, roughness, irritation and, in the end, even flabbiness. Just like the face, the body needs to be moisturized daily. And immediately after a shower, while the skin is still damp, which means it is more receptive to subsequent care.

  1. Pat (don’t rub!) your body with a towel.

  2. Then apply milk, lotion, cream, jelly or balm.

So you will quickly replace the loss of moisture that is inevitable when cleansing, and the skin will feel comfortable.

  • Superbly Restorative Argan Body Lotion, Kiehl’s based on organic argan oil, rich in fatty acids and antioxidants, moisturizes the skin, restoring elasticity and firmness. Its action is multiplied by squalane (it is obtained from olive oil) and orange essential oil.

  • Precious beauty milk, Garnier contains macadamia, rose, almond and argan oils. Quickly absorbed, smoothes and nourishes the skin, giving it radiance.
