We managed to define the “happiness curve”. When are we the happiest?

Happiness research has been carried out in thirteen European countries, including Poland. Scientists have indicated the exact age when statistically we feel happiest and the age when happiness drops drastically. Interestingly, both of these points on the “happiness curve” are not separated by a large interval of time.

  1. Scientists managed to outline the so-called The “curve of happiness”. After the age of 30, it reaches a climax
  2. After 40, your happiness drops drastically and reaches a tipping point
  3. The “happy curve” is similar for people of both sexes in all countries, except for one nationality, the French

When are we the happiest?

The “Social Indicator Research” journal presents the results of the research that was carried out as part of the SHARELIFE project among more than 26 people. people over 50 years of age. Data on happiness in different periods of life were collected in Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, as well as in Poland, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

It turns out that the level of happiness and satisfaction with life is not always related to the general condition, but it has to do with the birth certificate. Scientists were able to precisely determine the age when the level of happiness and contentment is the highest.

The peak moment of satisfaction with life and subjective sense of happiness falls between the ages of 30 and 34.

Scientists have created the so-called the happiness curve, which resembles an inverted letter “U” – from the moment we are born, our level of satisfaction with life begins to increase and reaches its peak just after our 30th birthday. It has been established that this happens regardless of gender. The sad conclusion is that later we start to feel worse and worse …

After the age of 34, the graph goes sharply down, and at 47,2 years there is a tipping point – then we can feel the least happy in life.

The pattern is repeated in all countries where the research was conducted, but against the background of other nationalities the French stood outwho maintain a similar level of satisfaction for longer. In their case, no decline in well-being was observed after reaching the climax.

The research also shows that childhood is not the happiest stage of our life. However, to be fully happy, you need a certain amount of experience and more years on your neck.
