The flower bed is undoubtedly the best decoration of the yard, backyard or suburban area. Usually the owners with a special passion are engaged in the selection of flowers for them. But creating a flower bed from improvised materials, and even with your own hands, is a separate pleasure, this process in itself is able to bring joy, it awakens the imagination and turns every summer resident into a creator of something beautiful, not yet created by anyone.
How beautiful to arrange a flower bed
We all often plant a lot of flowers in the country to decorate the site, but we don’t always make flower beds. The flowerbed suggests some idea, decorative elements that do not necessarily have a plant origin. A flower garden, as a kind of flower bed, can only consist of flowers and herbs, but it must have at least a fence. It is precisely the neatly executed contour that completes the whole composition. You can buy ready-made fences, curb tapes, plastic or metal elements, from which, on the site itself, during installation, you can make, like from a designer, a fence for your flower bed. And you can make them with your own hands from some improvised means that were lying around in the barn.
The border performs an important aesthetic function: it shows the borders of the flower garden, visually unites all the plants, implying one idea, gives this idea completeness, and the entire flower garden – accuracy. But he also has a completely utilitarian task – he does not allow flowers to grow without control, protects them from the penetration of uninvited weeds, even from attacks by domestic animals. Do-it-yourself borders are made from bricks, pebbles, shells, wooden, metal or plastic elements, old dishes, vinyl records, bottles. You can think of a lot of options. Bricks are usually placed on a corner and half dug into the ground. Gravel and small stones are fastened with cement – formwork is made, and then they are laid out in layers, interspersed with cement and small stones.
Large stones are simply laid out along the contour, they are also used inside, as decoration or a certain accent. You can see how the dishes in the flowerbed are adapted in an original way – plates from old scattered services are painted and made into a fence, but jugs, coffee pots, vases turn into very unusual vases for flowers or decorative grass. Very beautiful compositions are obtained when a flower grows from the neck, and tender grass crawls out of the broken side.
Very often, do-it-yourself borders are made from bottles – for this they are simply dug in along the contour of the flower garden. It is better to fill plastic bottles with sand, small pebbles or other bulk materials so that they do not lose their shape. Glass bottles can be stacked on top of each other (they will have to be fastened with cement), high or multi-tiered flower beds are made from such products. But plastic bottles can still be cut, then the border itself will turn into outlandish flowers. From large plastic bottles (from 5 l) they make original flower beds-decorations. They are laid on their side, a wall is cut out, plants are planted. And then you can arrange such small flower beds with the involvement of imagination and minimal funds (pieces of pipes, small bottles, hoses), giving them different forms: from a train with wagons to a flock of ducks or a family of elephants.

Life for old things
It is in the country that people store various rubbish, which is a pity to throw away. Here you can find a lot of funds for decorating flower beds with your own hands. If the skeleton of an old car rusts in the garage, urgently put it on the site in front of the house and fill it with earth! When multi-colored flower heads peek out of the cabin windows, and winding ornamental vegetation of all stripes climbs out of the open trunk, as well as from under the hood, then it will be possible to admire the car again.
Tire bed
Car tires are often used to decorate yards. They make original flower beds from them with their own hands, even garden figurines to decorate the site. The easiest option is to prepare a place and randomly arrange painted tires in which to plant plants. Variety can be achieved by color and location. If you fold the tires on top of each other, you get a high flower bed for ampelous plants. If you fold it in a pyramid – put three at the base, and two on them, one more on top, you get a multi-tiered flower bed.
Tires can be hung on a tree, a wall or a special stand, plant flowers in them or just put flowerpots – this will be quite an original landscaping of the site, especially if there is a blank wall or fence. The main thing is to fix the tires well and conveniently triple the plants in them. When creating original flower beds, you need to remember that their main purpose is to become a convenient place for growing flowers, which means you need to remember about the drainage layer, think over the irrigation system, pick flowers not only by color or shape, but think about their convenient location in conditions shine or shade, choose the right soil mixture.
With the help of a jigsaw and fantasy, you can make an original vase from an old car tire with your own hands. To do this, cut out the cord, mark the contours of the petals on the rubber with chalk or a marker, cut it out, and then turn the tire inside out. So you can even make a vase on a leg. But the most daring ones go further and cut out swans, birds of paradise or absolutely outlandish animals according to the pattern applied to the rubber. Old worn rubber becomes a good material for creating original flower beds – it is easy to cut and paint, it lasts a very long time without losing its qualities with unexpected temperature changes.
Flowerbed of stones
Stones are brought to the site by adherents of jewelry made from natural materials. If there is the right amount, just lay out the stones around the perimeter of the flower garden – it will immediately look better. But the stones should be of the same size, it is convenient to use slates, they consist of several layers, which can be advantageously used in the country. Limestone is often used to decorate flower beds with their own hands, it is a porous rock of white or gray color, moss grows well on it. Sandstone is used to decorate vertical flower beds, its porous and layered structure at the same time becomes one of the best means for flower bed design.
The color scheme of sandstone is diverse: it represents many shades from gray to red. Tuff (or travertine) is distinguished by warm colors, it is quite easy to process it with your own hands, while it is durable and strong. Pebbles of any size are used in flowerbeds in a variety of ways – small pebbles are sprinkled on the contours of flower beds or their individual zones, large ones can lie in separate cobblestones or in small groups, becoming separate accents among the greenery.
Rockeries are made on flat flat areas. Here you need to pick up beautiful stones of different sizes, they are installed one by one or in small groups, stones and plants (not necessarily flowering ones) are equal elements of the flower bed, and small pieces of the same tuff, slate or limestone are used for sprinkling.
The alpine hill has gone out of fashion in recent years, which does not make it less attractive in the country. Usually it imitates a natural mountain slope, taking this into account, stones and plants are selected. First, stones are set, and then flowers are planted, starting from the very top. If the site has a natural slope, you can make it terraced. For decoration, quartz or granite is installed on the slope, but sandstone or limestone will look more organic. Perennial plants are planted on the terraces, over time they grow more and more, and porous stones more and more resemble mountain slopes.
If a summer resident wants to create a Japanese garden with his own hands, then it is the stones that play the solo part. There must be many different sizes. From small pebbles (which are able to imitate water) to large moss-covered boulders, they are located at different distances, as befits destroyed rocks. A Japanese garden is usually organized in a separate, often fenced-off area, and the choice of ornamental plants should be appropriate – this is a place for solitary meditation.
Other interesting solutions
In every attic or shed, there is sure to be something for decorating flower beds, it can be remnants after repairs or old furniture. Strange as it may seem, but it is the old wooden or metal furniture that helps organize the most original and attractive flower beds. Garden paths will acquire a unique mystery if they meet free-standing chairs, on which bright flowers bloom instead of sitting. Or an old bedside table, from the extended drawers of which bright ampelous plants crawled out. And on the countertop can show off a large flowerpot with flowers.
An old metal bed can become an original flower bed if climbing plants ennoble the backs, and joyful flowers take the place of the springs. Thus, old furniture can decorate the yard and seem completely different. Only wooden furniture needs to be treated with some kind of antiseptic so that it lasts longer under the influence of the sun and moisture.
A stump or a piece of log can become a stand for flowerpots or a separate flower bed. At the log lying on its side, you need to cut out a part of the middle, leaving thick (at least 12 cm) sides, fill the ground inside and plant flowers. It is only important not to forget about the drainage layer and holes – they will have to be drilled in the bottom of such a flower bed so that the water does not stagnate. If there is an old boat, it will also fit for growing plants and decorating the yard. When she can’t swim on water, she’s good enough to swim across a lawn or yard full of flowers. Then her seats, like garden benches, will be seen among the lush vegetation.
Mobile flower beds in the yard can be old bicycles, carts or other most unexpected items. Boots or boots look very beautiful, from the tops of which some noble flower grows, and climbing grass crawls out of the torn off sole. Such small flower beds can be scattered throughout the site or built on special stands in one place. The flow of ideas for original flower beds may never dry up, but you need to remember that the main thing is to create comfortable conditions for plants.
